Leaking gas tank
 

Ok,here's the deal. My car is in storage for the winter. This morning I go to the garage and smell gasoline. When looking for the source, I find the gas tank is dripping fuel. How or why I don't know, because the car hasn't been moved since November. So to provide a quick fix, I want to drain the tank (almost full). What is the quickest way to do this? Help!

I put some vice grips on the fuel line between the tank and the pump and pulled the line off the pump. The point that line into a large jug and release the clamp.

If you want to go really fast, unscrew the screen filter from the tank, pull it, and lookout... You'll have the tank emptied onto your garage floor in under a minute. Actually, don't do that... It's a bad idea.

That's a lot of gas to drain. Can you get in your trunk and look at the fuel sender on top. There are two lines connected. I bet one of the leaks would be here. Now depending on how full the tank is the fuel may just be expanding with a change of temp. Although i doubt this time of year that will be an issue. Is your garage heated?
The sender can be taken out as well with a pair of large vice grips. Remove it and you will have access to removing some fuel. Or if you are still interested in removing all the gas, go to an auto parts store and get a fuel pump. Cheapest they got. And about 4 feet of fuel lines. And you will need a couple gas cans. Hook up the pump and start removing the gas.

last time i did this i pulled the fuel line and jumpered out the dme relay and pumped the gas out that way.

Thanks guys. Went this morning a got the siphon pump. It was the cats a**. Now to wait for spring and see what's going on.
