Default short circuited the coil. Solved. KLR died

Thought id post this here to.

I was looking for an ignition signal and i got a cable straight from the coil (Black Wire +ve) and took that where the DME sits. When i turned the car on, The wire shorted out onto DME pin onto one of the ground pins on the DME (Fat Green one) (i was using that for grounding) the car shut off, and wont start. no spark, and theres no power to the coil.

So what damage have i caused?

Was the Fat green wire pin 1 of the DME connector? If it was pin 1 that is the DME pulsed output that triggers the coil. The coil Black wire should have 12 vdc with the ignition key in the on position.
Ignition Switch output wire 15 is the source of coil 12 vdc with the Ignition switch in the on position.
By the way grounds are normally brown wires.

You jumped pin 9 and and 16 on the KLR. Please explain how that allowed the engine to start.

Thanks
Keith

klr pin 9 is ignition input and 16 is ignition output from the KLR. the KLR retards the timing when it sees knock so the ignition goes through the KLR and goes back into the DME and send back out to the coil.
When you jump those pins you pretty much bypass the KLR and using the DME only. it's not recommended to drive the car bypassed.

Looking at the schematic of the interconnect be tween the DME/ECU and the KLR. It appears that output pin 31 of the ECU is the trigger input to pin 24 of the KLR and KLR trigger output pin 16 is connected to ECU input pin 32. Pin 9 of the KLR is is connected to to ECU pin 21 Tachometer output. Which ls why i asked the previous question. I and looking at the 1986 944 turbo schematic. I just want to be sure of the procedure as it is a clever way to bypass the KLR for trouble shooting purposes.
Thanks
Keith
