928 engine in a 944?

Don't remember the weights off hand. I went thru the idea of transplanting 928 V8s into an offshore racing boat (it has been done) and it became clear. I talked at length about this with a well known 928 'guru' who had developed a package for the 928 motor to be used in marine applications. Their bare weight is significantly higher than a similar displacement GM.

928=264kg
Still heavy, but 50 lbs is 50 lbs.

That works out to 582 lbs. FWIW, when I weighed all the components in a 928GTS engine, I got 531 lbs. https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ht-thread.html

not just no........... HELLLLLLLLLL NOOOO !!!!
well stated. the LSx engines also look absolutely cherry in a 944/968 tub. and perform about 3X better than any oem Porsche motor evaarr. the 928 big block is just about the last thing i would ever want in a sports car. not to mention having a 13 foot long timing belt and being butt ugly.

they overbuilt the hell out of the block to be able to take power without needing steel sleeves. it IS a big block, afterall. there was enough material left in the block design to punch the bore out 5mm in later years without compromising strength.
you have to give due credit to the 928 guys though, they put big bucks into their motors and make some real monsters. 6,7 or even 800HP is not unheard of from those things...reliably.

He said Chevette not corvette.... 53-70 HP 1.4-1.6L Inline 4
well except the vauxhall chevette hs and hsr which turned about 135hp from a 2.3L slant 4...and a number of V8 engine swapped sleepers
