Ok after reading more into starter wiring... it seems that I am missing the wire that goes from the battery to the starter. I only have the one big lead on the alternator and then the little one from the ignition.

If this is the case - how am i getting any power to the starter? Am truly confused.

i replaced my dme/fuel and i have a 83 with a rebuilt engine n tranny with 20 miles on it i got it home n it wont start..got dme from porshe n still wont start i turn key n get nada..can it be the fuel pump
?now ima jump wire master w the alarm n dme but i still cnt get it to start ahhh

You may have some goofy wiring that spliced into the existing wire.
