IceShark's 944 Turbo S for Sale

Hello all,
This is NOT Dan speaking from the grave, but his nephew David. I am the one who got his '88 944 Turbo S after he passed away and it has come time for me to sell it. I would like it to go to someone who can appreciate it and will take care of it, as it is going to be hard to see it go. I thought there couldn't be a better place to start this process than here seeing as how he had such a loyal following among all of you. The car has ~53k on it at the moment and has not been driven nearly enough in the last 6 years (only about 10K). I am thinking of doing an Ebay auction and listing it locally, but wanted to see if there was any interest here first. If so PM me and I can give you more details/contact info/info on the car.

I am not in the market, but would like to see pics if you have them. I'm sure it was meticulously maintained, knowing how Dan worked.

FRporscheman 06-27-2011 02:35 AM

Ditto, I'd love to see pics, and I'm sure someone here would love the car and baby it.

How much were you looking to get for it?

Josh B 06-27-2011 09:28 PM

Pics and more info would be great.

Sorry for the slow reply.

Here's a little more info about the car.

Major maintenance/upgrades:

34,250 miles (8/19/97)
-T-belt, water pump, tens/rollers

37,279 miles (10/24/00)
-Iceshark headlights and wiring install

38,683 miles (8/20/02)
-New clutch master and slave cylinders

43,670 miles (12/3/04)
-New Cup clutch and all related items (other than clutch fork)
-Motor mounts
-Front sway bar bushings
-Rear main oil seal

4/22/04
-MSD ignition, plugs, wires, cap & rotor
-t-stat

44,220 miles (3/30/05)
-T-belt and balance shaft belts, all 4 rollers
-968 caster blocks

It also has a Autothority stage 2 chip in it and a set of 17x8 and 17X9.5 BBS wheels on it. Thats all of the major maintenance that I can find at the moment. Obviously things such as fluid flushes, oil changes, and minor repairs are strewn throughout- just too much to write. I do not have the original wheels, but I do have the original window sticker. He was the second owner, bought it in July of 1991 and it had 20,108 miles on it.

Pics are from a few years ago, but it hasn't changed much!

Dave

Clean car! Any chance of some pics of the interior and engine bay? How much are you asking?

+1

This one's got some history behind it with one hell of a previous owner that has contributed more to this community than many of us combined. GLWS!

Good looking car but will be needing a timingbelt job soon. i almost think you could just replace the belts because it has so few miles on it and the rollers

Im assuming the car was stored in a garage.

Couldnt agree more.

Many are asking what Shark's nephew wants. I dont think he know exactly what it is worth. That's why I am going to throw out what I think it should go for and what I am basing my numbers on.

$14,500 +- $1,000. Low mileage S has a bit of a premium. Tires are old, buyer will knock $off =-$. Headlight system has value only to person in the know =+$ to correct buyer, probably no dash cracks =+, probably no accidents =+, black is a sellable color =+, Turbo with S =+ MSD & chip = $0, BBS wheels are taste =$0.

What do y'all think of my appraisal? What do you think it is worth?

I also think IceShark should be made a liftime rennlist member post mortem so nobody can attack this thread.

If seller is willing to wait for a buyer, I would have to agree, your assesment is probably very close to the target.. If he is looking to sell it soon, the price will take a hit, as noone outside this community will know anything about the car other than it being a TurboS with low miles...

I don't know Tom. If the car is pretty orignal, doesn't have any paint work on it and hasn't been wrecked it might be worth even more. It is one of only 62 1988 turbo S cars in black.

I would reccommend putting some stock wheels on there and starting at 20K with some good pictures.

Ive been cruising CL looking for a 2-3k toy lately. I am leaning towards an MR2 since I never had a mid engined car. I found an 89 RX7 one owner 115k clean etc. for just under 2k. I am finding a lot of not so clean 91-93 MR2s with 150k and asking prices of 4k and up. All are NA cars.

I dont think the MR2 is a superior car to the RX7, and didnt think so in the 80s or early 90s when I bought two new RX7s instead of a new MR2. regardless of which I think is better, i dont think a 150k miles MR2 is worth the same as a 150k mile 944.

Therefore, I am not bothering to call the 4k MR2 ads and offer them a realistic price.

I dont know if asking 20k instead of say 15k for IceShark's car would have the effect on potential buyers

I witnessed this car first hand back in 2003 or so when Dan helped me install his ground kit into my old car. If it has been well preserved, it is extraordinary and I hope someone on rennlist picks it up and takes care of it. It was stunning back then. David, once you determine an asking price (I think Tom is pretty close on price, but the right buyer would likely pay a bit more) you should contact these guys: www.bringatrailer.com, I believe this car carries the rarity, low miles, and extraordinary condition to be featured here ( I am not affiliated but enjoy this site daily). Good luck, your uncle was a terrific guy!
