Hello Folks! I've been lurking as a guest for the past few months as I've considered which 911 to acquire... it will be my first Porsche. Looks like I may close on a nice 1996 C4(Guards Red over tan, with a nice complete service history). I'm anxious to delve into local clubs, group drives, etc. Resolved to have some 911 fun while I'm still (relatively) young enough to enjoy it!
My 911 won't be a garage queen; when I'm in state, I plan on some fun on a 90 round trip to work, about two weeks each month. New dynamics for that daily drive(and more!). Looking forward to meeting many of you, online and in person.

how's this for rare ?
.
once upon a time,
it seems Porsche was getting close to being done with the fugly pop-up headlamp madness for the front-engine 4....
here's a 968 Roadster (complete with factory 959/993-style fixed headlamps),
and i'm really digging on that weird tail and fat Speedlines....
looks like a midway point between Cobalt and Minerva Blue. nice.

Just bought a 93 968 and am setting it up for DE. List is pretty extensive( expensive) but would cover just about what most would think about doing. Hopefully it will be done in a week or two. Bought it in August and haven't seen it since the day I bought it!

While driving in Wheaton IL on Roosevelt Road (IL 38) Saturday 9/22, someone started honking behind me. It turned out to be a very nice black 944. Anyone on here?
Also on Tuesday last week, running on I-44 thru construction in Missouri (around Springfield as I recall) someone passed me in a nice red 951 cabriolet. No acknowledgement tho.

even weirder than when they ignore you is when you're hundreds of miles from home and someone recognizes your car.... one of the security guards at my friends place of employment came up and whispers, "i've got the secret Watergate tapes with John Dean and i need you to get to room 223........ wait... no actually there's a guy who's been walking around your car....... (whispers something into his mouthpiece).... he's still out there...."
and that evening on RL....

overall very pleased it wasn't worse.... .
not wishing to hijack this thread (LOL) but if anyone would be interested in doing my belts [@ 52 k miles now], i'm working in the rectangle formed between Chicago, Omaha, Kansas City and St. Louis until just shortly before Christmas..... you supply the tools, i'll bring cash, strippers, hookers, blow, etc.....
btw, i hit about 1/8th of a complete tractor trailer recap at about 90 mph today.... i was right in the middle of passing on the right behind a partner (in a flight size of two, so i had no chance to avoid it) on I-80 about 70 miles east of Omaha... the hit on the hybrid valance was so hard, the car pushed the fragment completely under the car WHAMMM! .... it must have flexed a great deal because the top section of valance on the driver's side (where meets the front area of the fender), buckled along about a 14 inch section tearing the paint..... also a small section of the lower lip at the point of contact now has a couple of small gouges... this part of the valance rests 5 and a half inches above the tarmac.... i'm very pleased that my efforts resulted in this thing being able to take a hit like this.... i hit much softer than this broke the original valance. this tire fragment would have easily broken the oem nose...
i've got about 30 k miles on the composite nose. i figure if i crash it into something just once in a blue moon like this, i'll live with having to do some work on it and get it resprayed. totally worth the effort in exchange for the pleasure of having it up on the car. the cool thing is the setup should get even better after i mount the aluminum belly pan.
sometime this winter, i'll rebuild the top/side section of the valance with a better grade epoxy that will also allow fine sanding.
