Default Drilling Rear Hatch Glass?

Anyone here done this putting a custom spoiler on? I looked here and saw a 968 rear wing retrofit to a 944, but not a custom one where holes had to be drilled.
I am going with a Cobalt SS rear spoiler.

I would contact a replacement glass company for advise on "drilling".

Pictures of spoiler?

Yeah, good luck with that.

Even if you can put a hole in the glass without shattering it, once you start putting pressure on the glass via the spoiler, it will then shatter.

I'll try for a more positive response: I know that in residential float glass applications, holes are machined in the glass before it's tempered. I don't know why this is, but it's likely worth asking about. What about bonding it, rather than making holes in the glass? Also, pictures of the spoiler?

I had a Mazda 3 spoiler, but went with the Cobalt SS spoiler as it looks better on the 944 IMO.....

http://www.spoilerdepot.com/spoilers...or/item-16173/

Also I am going to machine some angle adapters to set the angle just a slightly upwards just like it looks on the Cobalt.... So what is the best glue compound to use? Polyurethane, like the 3M Window Weld since I'm going to reseal the hatch?

Too much pressure for the glass I'd imagine. Cracks imminent.

Dude... back away from the computer and think about what you doing!

I have to say even if you mount it some way so that it does not fall off and do not crack the glass it will look like ***. Don't do it. The 944 already has a factory aero spoiler on it.

IMHO, the glass would be very susceptible to shattering, particulary if on or near any curved portion of the glass.

FWIW, try locating a junk/parts car with a delaminating hatch to test on.

are there any cars OEM with a spoiler IN the rear glass? I'd start by looking at what they do to mount them. I can't think of any, though...

Don't know about it looking like "***". My neighbor said it looks "Nasty" as I was doing some preliminary positioning of it. Now if it looks like "nasty ***" then I would question it LOL.

I'm here for some real tech, so what would be the ideal angle to set the wing at in relation to the parrallel ground?

it would.

try the early 2000's accord coupes, those had a nifty oem wing that vaguely resembled the 968 (non-TRS) wing

The angle adapter I will make will bolt to the spoiler but have only one larger bolt per side that goes thru the glass, so I'll only have to drill one per side in the hatch. If not then there is alot of surface area to glue directly to the hatch. For mounting pic reference....

The last couple days I've been driving around with the factory spoiler removed and have hit 120mph and haven't noticed any float in the rear end. Week before I did a top speed run after the trans swap and about 150 she feels a little light in the loafers with the old factory rubber spoiler.

Cannot drill tempered glass. The holes are formed in the glass before its tempered....

My grandfather/father owned a glass shop for 30 years.....

Previous owner had a cell phone antenna drilled and mounted to the rear hatch of my old 944. So the glass can be drilled but I do not think I would want to chance it, if you broke the hatch it might cost more than the car.
