Thumbs up I bought a cayman!

Hey everyone! It's been a long time since I've been active in this forum.

Just about a month ago I bought a used 2007 base cayman. WOW.
It's not as quick as my 951, but it's like driving a grown-up version of a go-kart!

I love my 951, but I really really doubt it could ever be as good as this base cayman.

The differences between the cars are pretty intense. The 951 pulls HARD but has no torque when it's not on boost. The cayman is powerful across the entire rpm range with plenty of down-low power.

The cayman begs me to turn faster and harder and break the law in ways I don't want to think about, but the 951 is much more raw and feels much more likely to kill me if I'm not careful with her.

Sadly, the 951 has to go. I've had her for nearly a decade and obsessed over it every time I've taken it out. Frankly, I hated worrying about it every time I drove it (which turned out to be pointless. It hardly needed anything in the time I've had her!).

I bought an aftermarket warranty for the cayman and I'm using it as my daily driver, so I feel incredibly lucky to be able to drive it almost every day.

So hello again from the past for those that remember me, I'm still here for the time being (until the 951 finds a loving new owner), but I'll be on the 987 board more and more.

Before owning the cayman I'd always thought they were neat. I imagined it would be good, but I had no idea it could be this good. The thing is like a freaking supercar (minus about 250hp). The Cayman and Boxster are INCREDIBLE cars!

As a former-ish 944/951 owner, what are some pros and cons to moving to a Cayman? Space, fuel economy, ride, noise, sound, etc?

Congrats and enjoy!

Nice. ..I have to say, the ONLY car I have driven that comes close to the 944 feel is the Cayman. For some reason the cabin feels right at home every time I sit in one. I have considered it as well, my issue is that the only way to justify it would be as a DD, and if a Cayman is a DD, I fear the 944 will turn into a dust collector

Excellent choice! You weren't tempted to spring for the "S"? A Cayman S in Seal Grey is next on my list

awesome Cayman! love the color as well! sorry the 951 has to go. it would be nice to have two Porsche's to choose from. i try not to worry when i drive my cars. if its gonna break its gonna break and there's nothing we can do about it. if you keep up on preventative maitenance and keep the car well cared for otherwise you shuldn't have much to worry about. either way, any more pics of the Cayman to share?

Congratulations. I had a chance a month ago to drive a Cayman S and Cayman R in an autox setup. Great handling cars. If I didn't need a back seat once in a while, the R would be a great single do-everything car - DD, track. Having said this, the Boxster Spyder is also good - same focus of the R with the top off.

Nice. I saw one this weekend while we were house hunting. I looked at my g/f and said "We're moving into this neighborhood".

I think the 1st gen 987 chassis cars are the bomb. I started with a dead '05 Boxster and stuffed it to the brim with '07 Cayman S 3.4 running gear... engine/tranny/brakes/susp/wheels/everything. It is the most fun car I have ever had and I've owned over 70 cars. I drive it every chance I get.

I wish mine was a Cayman but I'm not complaining. Good score op.
