GoPro Camera
I was thinking about getting one, is any one using it and what are the pros and cons? I ran one on my car a buddy loaned me last year at Auto Cross, I love watching those old races and I have DE coming up in June at Lime Rock
what is the real time on the battery, it claims 2.5 hours? can it be recharged from a lap top not plugged in?
thanks

James; works as advertised and power consumption is about 2.5 hour. Yes, it can be recharged off of any USB2 jack. I sell it and i'm happy with the products performance. PM me for our RL discount code.... Chuck

The new, HD one has better video quality and the rechargeable battery. I don't know if the battery life is exactly that, though.
I have the older, non HD, one. It uses AAA batteries. On regular alkaline, it lasts about 15 minutes. On the fancy "lithium" ones that are $12 for a 4 pack, it lasts over an hour.
There are also 2 kinds of cases - one that's waterproof (good for the kids to take in the swimming pool), but the sound quality isn't great; or one that has cutouts to reach the memory card and for the mic (the sound is much better, but, obviously, not waterproof.
If you think you want to put it inside the car, get the newer one - it's exposure settings are more advanced and there is a better chance of seeing both the interior of the car and out the windshield.
Personally, I like mounting it outside the car - the video is much more interesting.
I think you saw my recent Glen footage (the gopro was suction-cupped onto the roof) - here are some other angles I've done:

Is there any similar software for recording with android phone? My galaxy s phone makes quite reasonable quality videos.. Sw that would use gps, movement sensors and record it, would be great.

I have the GoPro HD. I could not find any way of mounting it in my 944 with the mounts that come with it. The sticky pads will not stick to the dash board. I ended up having to buy the suction cup. It's very powerful but it costs an extra $30.

Go-Pro does offer a Motorsports Hero Package that includes the suction cup and a couple other mounting options.
