Default May be leaving the Porsche experience

I have had my 944 for 25 years. It has been my baby. It has never broken down or left me stranded.

I have been hit three times in the past six months. The first two were hit and runs, Someone took out my driver side rear quarter panel. No note, no nothing. The damage, along with needing new exhaust, timing change, waterpump and some front end work exceeds the value of the car. Just the shought of parting her out pains me but I may be parting her out soon.

I'm looking for another 85.5 - 86 944 na but I'm concidering a 95 - 97 Jaguar xj6. I have yet to read a bad review about theses Jags. Any one out there with experience?

My mother had a 1985 Jag xj6 , it was plagued with electrical issues as was her Sterling 837sli

If you are selling a 944 soon, keep me in mind. White, silver exterior, brown interior, timing records, clean in and out are a PLUS.

if you are looking at jags look at the x300 (95-97) XJR...a monster of a car that is still civilized. i have the intercooler off of one for use in my supercharger project, nice piece. have not heard anything bad about them. the supercharger is easy to rebuild if needed with readily available parts. those were among the first cars to use the new AJ6 motor.

WRT another 944 i will keep an eye open...if i find a junkyard car with a good quarter panel would you want it to try to fix?

The x300 is the model Im looking into. I havent driven one yet, Not sure if I will even like it. I sold my BMW 740il and it was okay. I never really loved the car like I do my 944.

There's so much body damage now. Theres $2500 in the rear not including the rear quarter panel.
I wish I new how to do body work.

Sorry to hear man, if you were close by I'd help you with the body work... You could always give it a shot, maybe try fiberglass quarter panels they will be easier to install (atleast to me lol). All you have to do is cut off the metal ones leaving an edge. Then strip the paint off the edge and get a non-sag adhesive. Glue the fiberglass one on and then rivet that baby to hold it, start applying bodyfiller and sand smooth. Starting with a low grit 60,80,120,220 and on up. After that then you can prime and paint the car. You could have all the body work done in about a weekend.

You could do it for way cheaper than $2500. Though it would just be easier to buy another 944, it really depends on how much personal value there is on it.

cost aside there's no way I could give up a car I've owned for 25 years. it's family.

bite the bullet and fix it. you'll miss it if you don't.

It's a car. Once it's more of a burden than a pleasure, it's time to move on.

There's a gorgeous 99Turbo for sale on the member for sales board. Asking $12,500. Contact member Ski for info, in Arkansas I think.

There are usually tons of late NA 944's on craigslist here, dirt cheap donors...hell there's a silver rose Cup 951 that's been on there for months at a very nice price (no affiliation):

Personally I'd be wary of any Jag just from the standpoint that parts support is likely a pain.

I have a hard time paying 5 ot 6 grand for body repairs alone when I could get another one for less or a descent 951.

What Im planning to do is keep it. buy a Jag (x300) If I dont like the jag Ill sell it and either buy another 944 or throw that money into the one I have.

Got to agree with you there. I've had a great run with 944's but it became a 'use it or lose it' thing for me. I still love them dearly but just got tired of working on them when they weren't even a DD. A nice late model Vette might be in the cards though if I go back to another hobby car.
