What is the advantage of this hub over stock? You can run a rotor that isn't bolted to the hub?

The new design hubs are the same 68mm height as the 87-up hubs. This pic shows why the 87-up rotor when placed over the 86T or NA hub (74mm height)
does not fit the factory caliper. When Porsche designed the 86T hub to get the factory 951 caliper to mount, they actually weakened the cast hub webbing.....

These are drilled 136mm PCD for all 9 series rotors. All later BBK adapters will now work on the early cars with 76mm caliper mounts as well as any BBK with 94mm axial mounts too. Just PM I have 3 sets left with new bearings and grease seals.

I don't think so. Racer's Edge has billet hubs for the S2 spindles.
