ive heard it said " every tire is a compromise " i kind of beleive this to be true. obviously our 944s and 968s look and corner better with wider tires and shorter sidewalls. can anyone please explain any positive to running stock 205/55/16 fronts and 225/50/16 rears on my s2.?? is ride comfort the only advantage??

Except for take off race rubber, most used tires are 4-5 years old which IMO is beyond usable service.

The open road guys don't appear to have an issue:

Rain is a lot like snow, if you are slippin and a sliden it's usually driver error, the wrong tires or bald tires.

All things being equal will a skinner tire be better? Sure, but it's not like going up 2-3 sizes will suddenly make your car fly uncontrollably off the road.

I ran 17" 275-40 and 255/40 on 10"/9" on my 951. I loved them and never had to roll fenders or anything but drive them. It's all about offset.

Hacker....

just cuz you can get a tire for 30 bucks with plenty of tread, surely wouldn't hint at the dangers involved with running that old rubber. i was just suggesting the only 'possible' advantages in running a narrower tire as a general rule... and there surely aren't many advantages.... for the rain, i'll take my Dunlops. but they revert quickly into a minor disaster once the snow starts falling.

in the mountains the other night, i made straight for the next exit.

I'd really like to know some specs on these wheels that are running 315's...i was under the impression that they wouldn't fit, but now knowing that people are running them i have reconsidered...guess a 275/315 is in my future...just need to know offsets and all that stuff so i can get it straight with the wheel company

I would triple check that to be fact before ordering any tires. I would think all the planets have to be aligned for these to even have a small chance of fitting. Individual cars can be different, spring size and rate, ride height, geometry and not to forget that one company's 315 will be bigger than another's. The fenders would also have to be massaged at the very least.

^^^^^^nice!!!!

Park that next to a 100% stock 944 with 7" wheels. Make it look like a kit car.

Tony runs 315's on modified 17" wheels.

Wow, that helps......modified or not, they still have a measurable offset & as previously mentioned the make / model of tire.
