Default 968 Torque Tube Dimensions

Post what you know about the 968 TT. The Ebay pics state that TT is from a 6-speed manual and the drawing posts a part#, but doesn't state what it's from on Pelican. As you can see the drawing has a solid extended shaft and the Ebay pics have the shaft cut off right at the flange (I'm assuming 968 TT is just like the 928 TT design).....

Yes the above pictures show a 968 torque tube they are designed to be used with a front coupler that can be acessd via a bolt hole right behind bellhousing and slid back into torque tube. This allows 2 piece bellhousing to be taken apart and clutch to be changed without transaxle and torque tube being removed like in 944?

The picture in pet above and part # shows the 968 Triptonic automatic cars torque tube which has the same torque tube as 944 cars. This is because it uses the same bellhousing and drive gear as the automatic 944's it just has a slightly beafier transaxle with computer controlled shift point. So I believe this is where it got confusing for you.

Thanks, that clears the air. I still would like to know the flange dims for the 968 TT if they are the exact same as the 944 and if the TT inner diameter is the same as the 944..... 3.031 to be exact.
I've heard from someone here recently that you have to use a 944 TT when doing the V8 swap.....I call B.S.

Specifically, I would like to know how the 968 TT flange dims compare to the 944 TT flange dims......
2nd diagram.....

I believe that you do have to use the 944 TT for the V8 conversion because of the vendors who have made the clutch adapter plate they are made to run the 944 unit. The flange bolt up dimension on the 968 6 speed belhousing are identical to the 944 ones and the inner drive shaft is the exact same so all the parts are identical its just a bit shorter and has a much shorter driveshaft to facilitate the sliding front coupler!

Thank you for clearing that up as well. It all makes sense now why someone would say that the 944 TT and thus the 944 trans had to be used for the V8 swap. I'm going to build an BH adpter plate that allows the 968 6-speed coupler to clear the input area. Now I just need to find it's largest diagonal dimension.... Thanks again

Here you go Odu. If I had the exact dims of the 968 6-speed TT front shaft in relation to the TT/BH flange I could modify or make a new shaft for the LS swap....

944 TT flange dimensions....every one I measured had the upper driver's side hole drilled out of square.....damn drunk Germans....

The more I looked into it, the more I wondered if the 968 AUTO torque tube could be used for the 6-speed swap or if the 944 Driveshaft could be installed inside the 968 TT. If this is true then Constantine's upgraded 944 TT shafts would be the answer.

as Constantine mentioned a few minutes ago, i should try to use the 2 piece 968 system

as it's so much less time and effort if i ever need to drop it to do a clutch.

I doubt the 968 manual TT coupler will clear the C5 throwout bearing that mounts concentric inside the C5 bellhousing (Pic 1)

Matter of fact, I know it won't clear as the throwout bearing and plate I designed is only
1.50" ID

A 1-piece shaft is the answer.....

Robert, is the non-compatibility of the coupler the reason why the 968 tt doesn't fit?

how long is the front stub shaft of the 968 drivetrain, that connects the clutch to the torque tube shaft?
