If you 're not sure how old your tires are, I suggest you find out soon...

In the very beginning I actually thought my clutch had slipped at around 4-5k rpm in 1st gear because the tach needle shot up. That would've been horrible. Then even at 60mph in 3rd gear this was happening. of course it was the rear wheels losing traction when I hit the gasser. whenever the turbo kicked in, it was like an unusually huge load of hp was being dumped to the tires. So of course I checked the tires and the rear suckers were installed 10 years ago tomorrow!! Not sure about the fronts but this explains my problem! And it explains why I almost spun out a couple months ago around a sharp turn at a low-enough speed.
So I definitely recommended checking out your tires as soon as you can for safety and fun driving!
And once I get some new tires on there, I think I'll finally get to experience 944 handling, because even in the summer the car just didn't feel totally right.

Good tires are one of the most underrated performance improvement on offer. Unfortunately, decent ones cost, wear out relatively quickly, and come with relatively few bragging rights. People drool over pictures of coilover setups, but tires? Not so sexy. But objectively speaking, you will get more bang-for-buck in terms of handling and overall drivability than just about any mod out there.
I like Yokos myself. Expensive, and have all the wear characteristics of soft butter. But very nice to drive with. Performance costs, right?

Yes tires make a huge difference in the snow. I once got caught out in an early snowstorm with performance tires and it was all I could do the keep the car going straight on I-95.

Can't understand why will you take the chance of driving on old tires with such a powerful machine, tires is what keep the car in contact with the road. Really you should get new one ASP this way yours an other peoples life wouldn't be in danger.Ten years is way over the limit for any kind of tires (5 years max) just consider yourself lucky .
