So I'm mulling over an LS1 based conversion for my 944. Honestly it looks like a 10-12k investment minimum to get my 87 converted and getting a turbo or s trans. That's using a budget $2500 high mile f body ls1 as a donor. Will it be worth it? Then I will blow another 10-15k on paint, all new everything an lsd, new interior.... is it really worth it?

I can do a Miata conversion just as easy. Is it better?

Or I can buy a low mileage c5 Z06 for the same price and just drive the ever living hell out of it.

What really is better?

Im selling my 78 Vette soon to start / partially fund this madness one way or another.

1) 948?
2) v8 Miata?
3) c5 z06?

Or blow up my m96 on the track for even more $$$$$?

$20, 30k up to $120-200k .... The only limit is your imagination. You stop on a particular item/ system when you're satisfied. ...i've driven my 968 39,800 miles in the past 2 years since the swap, six transcon trips of 3,200 miles.... 1,200 miles in the past couple of weeks....and 140 miles today. It's been off the road too -- and lots of stuff continues to be done. Some guys focus on suspension and brakes. But there's really no end to it. I'm daily driving a very sorted car that cost an obscene amount. Couldn't have made it without "the Bray, and his insane wrenching skills." The interior upgrades are the latest scandel. Got some help from Lart with an extra cluster to mess with for a trial run. It's weird driving it lately. It's like i checked the boxes on a list from a menu at Alice's (Porsche) Restaurant.

Yea that gearing is extremely high. Quite pleasant for highway cruising...I understand, I also like a car that can scream when pushed and be quiet when just traveling.

Look, I wont argue that the guy does good work for few money compared to OEMs but on such small parts its extremely difficult to get good quality and the stuff on your car is in my opinion not, who cares about a few grams of weight shedding when you've got a V8 ffs...where is your logic man?
Anyway, have a look at your pictures in parallel to these:









You just CANT beat the factory design of Porsche...this is the absolute best looking front end for the 968.

Morghen,
The Audi carbon looks great. But that would look very awkward and out of place for a mid-90's 968. To anyone including Porsche folks, my interior looks quite normal mid/late 90's Porsche wedged between the 993 & 996, as i desired it to be.

I had the Ultra Mounts and would never recommend them for a street car. I suppose you could describe them as semi-solid as they were not solid aluminum and had rubber isolators instead of fluid like the factory mounts.
i'm in a bit of an odd situation with my LS to Porsche crossmember mounts mounts. i'm not keen to get into the deep weeds to swap out the worn out, no make that DEAD Gen I *TPC mount bushings (i forget who made the rubber inserts). The urethane bushings (Gen II), are sold by someone, but after all this time i've forgotten by whom. Been running these (now) not soft mounts for a long while---and the V8 is pretty smooth. At 53k miles, It makes me question the necessity for however much dampening is accorded w/ fresh rubber.

Adding a mount replacement interval just adds another thing. Are the mounts important to lessen abuse to the suspension, serpentine, accessories, hoses? Might be the only item i'd look to source from TPC, as everything else off the kit, all the other stuff Eric Hill put on has held up well. i still think like there's enough to worry about already keeping up with the remaining normal wear items on the car.

Maybe i'll install new bushings when the control arms need to come off. That might be a while yet.
