Default brake issue

what would cause the brake pedal to function fine one moment and then no resistance at all. I tried pumping the brake pedal several times to build up some pressure but that did not help. The car is a manual so for the remainder of the drive home I down shifted and used the E-brake to stop. Once home I checked the usual suspects such as brake fluid leaks, fluid in the resevior and vacume. The fluid level was fine and I could not see any leaks. This morning the brake pedal works fine. I'm thinking this might be a problem with the master cylindar, but im not sure. Any suggestions on how to track down this issue.

Sounds like a master cylinder issue to me.

If no fluid loss and you are getting a loss of pressure (even if the car is off) it's your master cyl.
