Default Koni hacksaw conversion

...so who's done it?

Looks like a great project, and the price is right.

I'm planning on it soon.

...details boys...details....

Here's my thought:

I got some Bilstein HD rear shocks for a song (NIB) and I thought of mating them with some 250 or 300 pound Welt lowering springs (@ 1-1.5 inch front) then drop the rear ecsentrics to the max.

How does that sound?

I took the stock fronts, hacked them, painted them Koni yellow, put inserts in them, and went with 200# fronts with a spacer to keep stock ride height.

I used a pipe cutter for a clean cut and hand drilled the 1/2" hole in the bottom...

Have fun man!

On my 85.5 944 na I did Yellow Koni 1035 rear (set 2/3rd way to firm), 1038 front (they drop right in) (set 1/4 turn off softest), wanted to change the front springs but they sent the wrong springs so I reused the stock springs. the car feels great now (both front 1038's that where in the car where blown and the rears where old KB's)Car holds the corners much better and non more bottoming out the rear.

...what would the front koni's setting be to balance versus the bilstein hd's? A mid setting twist or two?

I went with Paragon Products Conversion. They do the cutting and inserting for you and then you send them your old struts when your done. They even paint them Yeloow for you if you would like and they do a great job.http://www.paragon-products.com/prod...conversion.htm (no affiliation just a happy customer)

I also put Koni Yellow Adjustables in the rear too. WOW what a difference.

It is pretty easy. One thing that I would do is to use thread locking Loctite or something similar on lower bolts as they may want to come loose.

Harrisonrick

I use the Koni front with stock springs on S2 and Bilstein HD in the rear and I have my Konis adjusted 1 and 1/4 turns. I saw an article that was comparing the stiffness of Bilstein vs. Koni on a Mustang I believe and that is what they showed as the most similar. http://www.koni-na.com/presentations...ng/slide4.html or http://www.koni-na.com/civicdyno.pdf
**just realized one was for Bilstein Sports not HD - still neat to look ...

I will be doing this as soon as I make it back home. The inserts are waiting patiently...

There's something perfect about using 'School Bus Yellow' on fancy parts on fancy sports cars
