Default Changing out expansion tank

Hey guys I broke down and bought a new coolant expansion tank and would like to know what is the best way to install this.

Do I need to drain the whole system or is there a way I could change it w/o draining all of it.

+1, FWIW I always drain coolant by pulling the lower radiator hose. Much easier than pulling than messing with the drain plug, which can break in the removal/installation process. You should be able to slid it back just enough to drain slowly and pop it back on to stop the flow.

yea i also just pull the lower rad hose and let it drain out as much as needed to empty the tank. undo the two hoses, swap the tank, reattach hoses, refill, bleed it.

i'm just using prestone 50/50 premix. mt. dew stuff.

I am using the non-phosphate from Toyota as I had it left over from my Prius. It is designed for all aluminum applications. If this is bad someone please let me know.

Blue stuff.

VW Pentosin G001100, 50/50 with distilled water. Couldn't find it last time so I used the replacement:
VW ZVW-237-10.

Can also get it at Audi.
