Post BIG HP 944 N/A on the way to the track!

I thought the list would like to see a dyno chart from the latest 944 N/A car that Huntley Racing has built. Certainly not an all out project but a fairly standard club car for us. She just left today for Las Vegas for her first event. We took a few pics of some of the guys as we loaded here on our customers trailer.

Here are the specs:

86' 944 N/A
HR-NA-300 2.8ltr Big Bore motor
HR Stage III head (porting/polishing/o-ring etc..
HR MAF II
HR Headers
HR Side exit oval exhaust
HR Stage I coilover suspension
Turbo brakes w/HR rotors
Fiberglass front header ad rear bumper
Corner balanced and aligned at Huntley

Here is the dyno:

Here are the pics of some of the crew and the car.

Nice. I'de rather pay $4250 than $6250 for the HR-NA-300, though. For less than $5000 one can purchase a ~240hp 3.0L 968 block.

Too bad a 968 won't make 225 at the wheels. Assuming 15% drivetrain loss... we're looking at 204 at the wheels - but with the more "lossy" 6-speed transmission, you'll realistically see around 195 at the wheels - which is what I've see on the dyno. In the case of the 2.8L 944, 259 crank HP (267 with the 6-speed - assuming the same loss). As we can see, 225 > 204, and 259 (or 267) > 240. Keep in mind that if you pick up a 968 block for less than $5K, you still need a 968 DME to control variocam and OBD-I, plus ehxaust (since the 944 exhaust won't fit), and an intake manifold (since the 944 manifold won't fit), all the other BS that is needed to make a 968 motor work. Oh, and don't forget the $2500 968 head, and the $2000 cams too.

Bang-for-the-buck, I think the 944 works out a little better.

Sweet! The power of a stock 86 951 without the turbo lag. Badge that thing so I'll know not to mess with it!
