Real question though. Has anyone messed up the 4 mount holes (bellhousing) by having a fully dressed engine a stand? It's cast aluminum. With 2-400 lbs cantilevering on it, sometimes I wonder - mainly because I wheel it around on that stand over concrete. Standing still it's fine, but maybe under dynamic loads it's asking too much of the materials. There are sometimes bumps on the ground that cause the engine to bounce around, that would be a really s****y way to ruin an engine after spending thousands on a build.

As long as you have good thread engagement you are fine - if you just have 3 or 4 threads engaged you are asking for problems. I use long threaded rod with nuts on the end.

I know what you mean. The floor in my workshop is cracked and pitted. When you move the engine around, grab it by the engine, not the stand itself, so your hands absorb the shocks. When my turbo longblock was ready for manifolds and the turbocharger, I felt it was time to set the engine down onto a pushcart. I've never seen those holes give up like that, though.

On the other hand, cranks should be stored upright/on end as well as fan clutches.
