Lightbulb Found an alternative to Porsche Zip ties (well almost)

Someone here recently stated that the Porsche wire tie (or cable ties or tie-wrap) costs something like $1.85 each. This really caught my attention. Zip ties are one of my favorite things in the world; clever, efficient, useful, strong, light and before this cheap. In my world, this is THE high performance product that left duct tape in the dust. Finding that this cherished device has been ripped off and mangled with some sort of propietary Porsche modification really pisses me off. So in the back of my brain I have this a little list of problems that must be solved to set the world straight again and replacing the Porsche wire tie is near the top.
So there I am standing the discount auto parts store today (Carquest) and what do I spy but a bag of tie-wraps very similar to that of P-Car - you know with the little eyelet for attaching to the studs. These are not exactly the same, no release tab and the eyelet is tiny bit larger. I don't care about the release tab (they just **** me off too), but the larger eyelet means the tie-wrap won't snugly hold to the stud. So here's the challenge sport fans; devise a slight modification to the new tie-wrap so that we can all utilise this new found resource.
To the top 2 entries (judged by yours truly) will be awarded 10 each of this precious commodity. Oh and bonus points if the entry can be done as a poem (I loved that poem thing we did a while back)...Bruce

Duct Tape or GOOP should hold it just fine. As a poem???

"I had to stoop to
purchase the GOOP - as the Tape
won't hold the mate I made with the
tie.

If I had purchased the tie from Rennlist,
I would have had to insist
that the tie had stayed tied
and the list would have insist
That I would be a member.

But you should all remember
that a Member is not a Member unless the tie
had held in two directions - by-the-by
I could not untie that god damned tie.

So - always be a Member
And always remember
That a tie isn't a tie unless it doesn't
untie until I die."

OK - so I'm no Robert Frost - sue me...

Holy cow John you're a freakin' poet! Are you crazy guys??? That was ART - pure poetry!!

Just hilarious.

I'm closing my browser now and going to bed because I want to end on this happy note because I have had a pretty horrible day/week/year/whatever so far...

Thanks John!!

LOL! John.

No need to recreate the wheel. While I have 500 of the "Porsche" firewall ties, actually they are Hellermann and a couple other German manufacturers use them, you could just use a standard tie with an eyelet like you have and sock it down with a 5mm nylon nut.

You need a plastic nut to deform over the goofy coarse threads on the studs and a wire tie that has a thin thickness eyelet.

That is likely the way I will go when I run out of these Hellermann samples.

Oh, and if I win this contest, you don't need to send me the prize. You wouldn't believe how many samples I have laying around in the shop.

It is the one on the left, Tim. That round *** down from the catch has square sides on the inside hole so when you smack it on a threaded stud it deforms and hangs on to it.

You can also pick up these zip-ties with the bolt-hole at Home Depot!

Tim, They are on the firewall and a couple other places but I know some 944 cars didn't use this fastening scheme. Manning sent me some pictures of his car for his battery cables order as he had an Optima battery with standard polarity poles in it and we wanted to make sure the cables would be long enough. He had a different button like connector that ran along the top of the firewall.

You probably have the same deal and don't need to worry about any of this.

Danno: Yeah, the eyehole tie is pretty standard and cheap. Then just get the nylon nuts.
