Distributor cap and rotor brand
Does it matter what brand of distributor cap and rotor to use on the 951's. Can I just go to my local auto parts store for these, or should I order them from a Porsche place.

I'd recommend staying with Bosch. The Bosch units utilize brass contacts which will last longer and perform better than aluminum ones. Paragon has the cap/rotor kit for $55 ('84na). This was about $20 less than NAPA parts. Check 'em out.

I always go with Bosch on German cars. They are a very old and established company, and provide OEM for just about all the German and Swedish manufacturers. Besides all that, they just make high quality stuff. When I went to work here at the P.O. garage, we had some AMG jeeps in the fleet that ran the same engine as in the 924, but carbureted. They had been overtightening the timing belts, and trying to use aftermarket crappy ignition points and condensors. I put the fellas' wise to timing belt tension (and relieved all that howling)and advised management that switching to Bosch points and plugs would eliminate those annoying ignition related breakdowns they'd been having. Of course, being Postal managers, they resisted on the basis that the Bosch parts were more expensive. But they weren't factoring in the breakdown costs. After I went to an old friend of mine who had supplied parts where I used to work, and he gave them a jobber price, they relented, and the ignition problems just went away. What they had regarded as troublesome POS trucks suddenly weren't too bad. Amazing what quality parts can do.

I found a good site for bosch stuff and other OEM stuff for our cars. www.thepartsbin.com You can even look things up by part number. I got my crank sensors there.
