Default Winter Wheels & Tire Fitment

Hi Everyone,

I have a set of 17" BBS wheels, 8" fronts, 9" rears that came off my 911 C2 and was going to give them to my son for his 944 NA to use as a set of winter wheels. Does anyone know if they'll fit on an 86' 944 and if so what snow tire size would work. I did do a trial fit of the rims - they bolt up Ok and the brake calipers clear Ok. Would wheel spacers be required for the 944? The tire sizes for the C2 where 205/50/17 & 255/40/17.

TIA,
Ron

Those are some wide *** snow tires. The skinnier the better. If the car is late offset they will fit. If not, they will fit with spacers.

If they bolt up ok and dont hit the suspension components then you're fine probably.

yeah alittle wide for snow- try to stick to 7's all around - youd need some 1" spacers approx all around to fit those wheels.

You can buy cheap Boxster 16's and run skinny tires-you'll need spacers in the front. Ran my old 968 coupe in up to 8", no problem, but dry grip was off 30%.

Let him use those as summer rims and buy some 205/55 16 snows for his car on the stock 16"s, it'll be a monster in the snow. Skinny is better for a winter tire, seriously consider studs if you get a lot of ice. That said i ran studless 195/65/15's and my car was great even up in the mountains when i went snowboarding.

I really want to go rip 2nd gear doughnuts in the snow now, they even paved my favorite parking lot this summer. I can't wait.

Thanks everyone for all the excellent feedback and am pleased to hear that she'll do nicely in the snow with proper snow tires. I just love the balance of this great road car in the dry.

I had a set of Blizzaks in 225/65/16 on 8 inch wide d-90's on my 968 last winter. That set up gained almost two inches of clearance under the car. It looked a little goofy, but my car would get through the snow better than my 4wd truck.
I used that set-up for a couple of rally-cross events as well. Lots of fun and I learned a lot about controlling the car. I'll see if I can dig up some pics later.
