Post G-Tech mount

Has anybody here ever devised a mount for a G-tech other than the stock one. The velcro on mine doesn't stick to the stock mount very well, and a few hours in the sun is enough to make the unit fall off the mount.
New velcro would be a temporary fix, but that brings me to problem #2. PCA/NNJR does not allow me to use the stock mount during autox events, (Suction cup doesn't pass tech). I'm sure I don't have to tell you all, what it feels like to do 7 or 8 runs knowing your G-Tech is in your wife's purse, doing you NO good at all? I'm stumped, any ideas? TIA

I haven't done this, but maybe somehow super glueing a U shaped bracket to it on the top, then screw it into the area around the dome light? Is this a track car or your street car? In other words, would you mind drilling holes?

Street car, and the interior is perfect. Thanks but holes are out of the question.

SORRY!

My bad. I have to go pick my momma up and I'll take the 944 and look around see what I can come up with. 2 heads are better then one.

EDIT
I couldn't figure anything out. I'll sleep on it.

What about inside the glove box? Screws/holes would be hidden. May require a passenger to operate, though.....

Hey this is an old thread, but i'd like to revive it with this question:

Can the G-Tech be powered by something other than the cigarette lighter? My car has a power feed coming out of the cabin light for a radar detector. I was thinking of taking out the detector and plugging in a g-tech up there. The cable currently mounted is the small male kind that looks like a headphone jack.

Any other mounting ideas?

Sure, go down to Radio Shack and get some power plug/connectors that'll work with your existing power line. Make sure you get the polarity right so you don't blow up the G-tech (or make a bridge-rectifier)...

So the G-Tech's power cable is removable? Just double checking... Thanks!

Please excuse me if I'm incorrect, but I don't believe the cord is removable. If it is, then it would probably be more involved than most would want to try. I think what Danno meant was to get an adapter of some sort that the "existing" cord would plug into. Am I wrong about this Danno? I'm not too electrically or electronically inclined, so I may very well be wrong- maybe not a perfect speller either b/c those words just don't look right.... The biggest prob I have w/my G-tech (aside from the adapter end not going far enough into the cig lighter to hold itself there) is that the suction cup oftentimes wont hold it to the windsheild....

No the cord is not removable. Just cut it at a spot that's convenient to hook up to your existing wiring. Then install mating connectors so the original cord still works like normal. But you can also disconnect it and plug into the power wire you have for the radar detector. So you'll need two connetors; a plug and a socket.

Sounds cool, lets see if I can make it work. Thanks Danno!
