Default Enjoy It

I have both auto and 5spd. Enjoy the fact that it is clean and looks great. Its a Porsche and John Q. Public has no idea how fast or slow it is. However it does cruise the highway very well too.

The engine and transmission are salvageable but the rest of the car is destroyed. I thought it may come to use one day so I have it at a warehouse. My brother bought this 944 the other day and I thought it would be a fun project.

Nice car.

I'd say take all of the salvageable stuff out of the turbo and put it in the n/a. I.e brakes, transmission, engine.

The Turbo's transmission has taller gearing, not a good pairing for an n/a motor.

That looks great. I want your wheels. lol
If you have the time and money to do it, the swap is a fun project. Nothing is hard about it at all, just takes a while (time you won't be able to drive it).
I'll help you with any info you would need, Frank (Legoland) helped me through my swap and sold me most of the parts.
You can also redo whatever in the rear end looks like it needs it while you're in there. Like the shocks or a new sway bar.

Oh... and you can get the turbo trans in there, but it's not quite geared for the n/a. Or you could put the turbo engine, and transmission in there. If you search "turbo my n/a" you won't find anything, cuz no one ever asks.

Also... where do you live?

I used to have an '89 944 auto... it landed in my lap so who can complain. Had it's plusses, less work in stop & go commute traffic etc. Only thing is that darned damper plate would go out & need to be replaced every 80K miles like clockwork. It is slow...... I even autocrossed with it a couple of times, just left it in 1st all the way round.

a shiny auto 944 is definantly worth it if it looks that minty and crispy. like they said, there are tired and beat 944's out there. automatic or not, its still a beautiful car and very enjoyable

The Boxster tansmissions will bolt up to the 944 TT with the exception of the top 2 holes. That picture was during a mock-up to see if it was possible. Then, the 944 TT to tranmission input shaft coupler is adapted to the boxster tranmission input shaft. The boxster shifter and cable assembly is then installed where the driver sees fit.

This is not my car. Its Petes and ive lost touch with him so I dont know if its complete or not. But its all in good fun! Just another option for 944 owners especially those with the need for a stronger box.

Heres another shot.

I agree...the positive side is that it has a good engagement. You know when you're in gear.

Part of the problem is probably shifting with a 3' long metal bar, rather than cables or a shorter linkage. Necessary evil for the drivetrain setup.

That 986 tranny swap is neat. Nice to see what options are out there..
