Do you know how? That's what I'm leaning toward. The headlights/foglights were off. I wasn't cleaning the windshield. It just went "pop" and flames came out from the hood.
The coil is not a part I looked at on this car. I did not replace it, I did not touch it at all other than replacing all of the spark plug/ignition wires, I don't believe it to be a fuel line issue. It has/had steel braided lines and a Lindesy Racing fuel rail and adjustable regulator.
I think it can be narrowed down to the following: Headlight, headlight motor, fog light, washer pump, ignition coil.
The heart of the fire was definitely near the passenger side headlight. This car has braided fuel lines and in the pictures you can see the main source is the headlight area.
I want to understand because I thought this car was solid. I was driving it every day with no issues. Not a single miss. Nothing gave me a reason to expect something like this could happen. Every light bulb worked externally. The washer pump worked. Everything was fine.
I wish could see this being a problem before it happened and that's what's killing me.
I didn't.

Cleaned the cruise control servo and reflowed solder on about a dozen components in the CC computer hoping to fix an intermittent cutoff. I'll road test it tomorrow. Thanks to Clark's Garage (RIP) for the excellent instructions.

Thanks for the info. After doing more research I came to the same conclusion. Going to check the wiring this weekend.

Finally drove it today and the cruise worked perfect. No more speeding up when engaging or intermittent disconnects.

Drove it to its new home, at my new place. On the way, I got white smoke from the tailpipe. This started after about 5 minutes of driving and continued for around 10 minutes. When I hit the highway it went away and didn't come back for the remainder of the trip. Wasn't linked to acceleration, engine braking, or idling and the car runs flawlessly. Definitely oil (or something) and not coolant or an overly rich mixture.
The car hasn't been driven much since late 2017, maybe 3 or 4 drives since I've been away for work so much. Wondering if it's just oil that seeped past some seals or was lingering in the intake that was just burning off.

Wow! Mista X that's terrible..Glad that you weren't hurt! Now hose off as much of the foam that you can..some of that stuff can be corrosive...there are some grounds in that area that may have contributed to the fire as well. Looks like some new stuff may be in order here. What a shame! sorry about your loss..any help from the insurance company?

I'm going to part it out. Will take some pics and make a thread/post it on CL this weekend.

Finally got the lift home. Getting the car together should be much easier now.

my manual headlight brackets from a rennlister showed up so test fit one side in the car...
then i got sidetracked from that and took out all the power steering components
pulled the steering rack out and cleaned it up and started working on it
That started a snowball effect looks like im gonna need new inner/outer tie rods and boots....and gonna order suspension since i need to get it aligned after anyway
