Default Spacer won't clear front hub dust cover, what are my options?

I'm trying to fit a set of 1" spacers to my 86 951 and it seems the dustcap is keeping them from sitting flush. What can I do?

I've heard of running without the cap and using silicone to seal the center cap, don't care to much for that idea. Also heard about having the spacer machined, what about machining the cap?

Keith,
I had mine machined form back to front, leaving the hubcentric in tact.

When I used the 21mm, I had to have those machined also, but could not keep the HC due the amount (depth) I had to shave.

Any M-Shop can do it...takes about 5 minutes per, including de-burring. Just offer $30 cash...they'll gladly take it and get you in and out.

So did you run without the cap with 21mm spacer?

No I could still run the cap, no problem....just did not have the HC on the spacer due to the extent (depth) of the machining (21mm).

when i ran those i put them on a lathe and took out some material to clear the cap but left enough to stay hub centric.

Yep...you can do that on the 28mm's, but not the 21mm's

I used a hole saw from Lowe's. I think it was 2". It was a little rough but it worked and it left enough ridge to keep it hub centric.

Had to have mine machined also, about $30-$40.

I ended up adding a 7mm spacer to the hub side of the 1" spacer. Works well for a total of 32mm extra offset.

Bringing this back from the grave to inquire how to fix some hub centric adapters that dont cleat the dust covers on the front of an 86 951. It looks like you could just increase the ID of the whole thing a bit and then it would clear and still be hub centric? Anyone know the diameter of the hub cap? What all did yall do machining wise to get these to work, any pics?

take the hub and cap with the spacer to the nearest machine shop piece of cake even for the Marx bros.
