65 is just the aspect ratio between tread width and sidewall height.

if u look at the miata tire calculator, you'll see that the sidewall height is pretty much same 5.1/5.2 inches.

it looks like the sidewall to me. so that's not safe to patch. it's right on teh edge of the thread and it would be considered where the tire flexs so a patch wouldn't work.

lol i'm no expert on this stuff. just wondering if anyone knows if that size would work I have no clue if it would affet safety.

front tires are 205/60r15s I believe and rear is just wider 215/60r15 but if I go 215/65r15 in the rear i'm not sure if that would affect my handling and drive.

Go to Les Schwab and get a use tire from them they wont mount it, but you can knick them out of the bin. And take them to a less reputable mounter and have it done there. If your really that broke this is the way to go.

If I was home I would send you an old tire for free, but alas.

okay I'm getting my new tire on firday they said 160 installed plus taxes.

I didn't measure the thread depth but it's actually more than 50 it's only 15,000 kms on them and I'd rather have 4 tires of the same model.

sucks but have no choice. hopefully it won't happen again....

If not, I would buy a couple of tires for the rear. There are great inexpensive tires out there like dunlop direzza or fuzion. 215/60/15. Actually I had this very same dilemma - one rear tire blew out and the other one was still decent. I decided to buy 2 and sell the decent on on craigslist. Good luck.

if you really are strapped for cash, repairing it with a walmart kit is ok for a while, ya its almost on the sidewall, but i'm just saying if you really can't afford it right now, thats a good option to get you by for a little bit. the worst that can happen is it'll leak a little and it might eat up your sidewall.

I dunno, that doesn't really fill me full of comfort. I guess I'm just too old to entrust my life or my family's life to a sidewall patch. No offense intended to those who are OK with that reasoning.

its not supposed to fill you with comfort...lol exactly the opposite, i wouldn't do over 40 under those circumstances, just saying that if you have no other option it can be done.

yeah..... I'd rather not drive or pay the money than drive with an unsafe tire and risk getting killed or inuring other people and wrecking the car.

from what i've been told sidewall patches are really unsafe because it flexes and the patch won't stick properly.

I'm thinking of one of those police chase videos when the guys tire falls apart and he's still driving on his rim with sparks flying. I kind of want to avoid that.

I'm pretty sure sidewall patching is also illegal so if you crash and injure someone you probably won't get covered and you're going to get sued.

What if you use a plug instead of a patch? I don't see how the flexing of a sidewall (which shouldn't be that significant on a lower profile tire) should cause a plug to jump out.

I had an experience about two years ago where I was getting about one flat per week. I bought a kit and was pretty good at repairing them each time and quickly. Granted none of them were on the sidewall but the plugs are so small that I don't see why it would make a difference for around-town driving.

Fortunately I found a new way to work and have since replaced those tires so no more flats for me lately!

well you do have the worst luck i've ever seen, so maybe a new tire is in order.
