Danno, Andrew already decided to get the adjustable voltage regulator that I sold you. I want him to try that and the new battery cables and see how it goes.

Trying to squeeze in a big 200 amp Delco alternator is a lot of work and you need to have it mounted solid as a rock or it will rip the drive belt apart pretty quick. No half-assed mounting adapters allowed when that sucker starts making big power.

Hey,

That guy who used to sell the higher output alternators in Minnisota was Mike from Prospeed. He has stopped selling the alternators and just about everything else but his brake fluid.

(Rant On) I wouldn't do business with that punk again if I had to save my life. He still owes me a refund on my core deposit for the alternator I purchased from him almost a year ago. The last time I talked to him he told me he had no money and couldn't afford to send me my refund. Then, a couple months later I see he is asking questions on the e-mail list about installing rear coilovers on his car and replacing the suspension carrier with the Kokeln piece. Seems to me if he has bucks to do that he could be nice enough to send me my money (Rant Off)

OK, so now that I have vented about that punk, he was nice enough to tell me that the higher output alternator he sold were rebuilt by some local shop. They would take the guts out of some alternator for one of the big BMWs, like a 735 or something, and put them in the case for the alternator for our cars. Mine seems to work pretty well, though I have yet to bench test it.

Michael, do you know exactly what he was having done to the alternators? I know if you put in a better diode pack you can up the output. Too bad you didn't bench test your souped up alternator from him and see how far it could hold 14 volts. We have several guys that are putting in big amplifiers and running into problems because they need too much current.

It might be able to be done for a reasonable price. I know Mike from Prospeed was selling the exact same adjustable voltage regulator that I sell for $16.50 for $50.00.

How much did he charge you for that souped up alternator, before he screwed you on the core?

But I don't know if the huge sound system guys could get by on 145 amps anyway. They really need to buy a small trailer and drag a Honda generator behind them.

This whole high-output alternator thread reminds me of that electric-supercharger thread we had a while back. Or was it on the 928 list? Anyway, the final numbers indicated that to get any tangible benefits, and assuming 100% electrical conversion efficiency in the alternator and supercharger, we'd need 1200amps!! Which would be 6 alternators hooked up to the engine! And the cables needed would be like 10mm solid-cooper bars going into the supercharger to deliver that kind of current, heh, heh...

Hey Dan,

Yeah, I really should have had the thing bench tested first. Unfortunately I wanted to get the alternator in and my old one back to him so that we could get the core sorted more quickly. It's not like I was hurting for the money and really needed the core back, but since he took over 3 months after receiving payment to send me the alternator I figured I should work quickly.

Anyway, the thing cost $250.00 plus a $50.00 core and a way inflated shipping charge of $35.00. (It only cost me like $10.00 insured to send mine back to him)

Oh, and he is now claiming that he is going to send me a money order for the core. Let's hope it doesn't bounce like the check he sent me.
