I seriously doubt you're anywhere near that. Sorry

I have "heard" of S2's dynoing up to 220 at the wheels but there has been extensive work on the motor itself. My motor is stock.

You have to rev the hell out of the 944S and then the rod comes knockin.

If you want the daily driver that is ceaper to maintain buy 85 or older 944. If you want good daily driver with power and good brakes take 944S2.

If you want to tune buy 944 turbo (951).

I didn't say at RWHP. The S isn't dynoed at the wheels for 188 HP...nor is the S2 for 208, obviously. Why can't anyone read the posts before posting derogatory comments???

I have owned the S and autocrossed against 8v s, it's not much faster, but it is more fun the power comes on at the top were the 8v falls off. I did the timing pad in an hour with hand tools, the timing belt is the same. I never had any bottom end problems and it lived at redline without complaint. I would get the S over the 8v any day of the week just because it was much more fun for me.

Now having owned both...if you really like to [I]DRIVE[I] the car go for the 'S' and be willing (read have to) perform the tensioner and belts if they cannot be proven to have been done. (same can be said for 8V too.) The ramifications for not keeping up the 'S' engine will hit you in the wallet much harder than the 8V. I was orginally shopping for an '83 for its simplicity when my '87 S called my name...I would not have it any other way. The power difference is noticable and fun but the tach has to go above 4000 rpm. Either way you decide to go will reward you with the best bang for the buck among entry level/daily driver cars- period. Rob

I checked the car today... It was in great shape and ran really really strong especially on high - rpm. But the VIN number on the car was different from the VIN number on the car's license ! This is a common fact with old Porsches here On the car was a us spec VIN WPOZZZ94ZHN****** and on the license a euro one WPOAA0945HN******. The last 6 digits were the same! Does the engine number 78023** belongs to a 944 S engine ? I think I'll walk away from this car and continue my research.

My old S2 engine gave 200rwhp... while it lasted. It's still a bit of a mystery why the engine failed.
But it's a goner ; we're on the M44.43 bandwagon right now ;-)

If I'd be buying my first 944 now I'd be going for a stock 944 to learn the gimmicks of the car. Then sell it and go for 968, S2 or 951... Well maybe for S2 with 968 block enhanced with rotrex ..

Rick-

Didn't mean to get your panties in a knot

I appologize.

BUT even if you think you're getting 210 at the flywheel that would mean that you're probably getting 178HP at the wheels assuming a 15% drivetrain loss and that is still about 28HP above stock and I don't think you're there with the limited mods you've done.
Get the car dynoed and call me out!

Peace.

A 15% drivetrain loss is generous. Last time I saw a dyno for a 944S it had about a 19% drivetrain loss. He's probably making just a touch over 200 at the crank, which would bring it to about 162-164 at the wheels.
