okay sorry I think the light is on........ I have an 85.5 944. so the oil pressure light isn't the actualy oil pressure picture that is suppose to light up.....
when I turn the ignition on the light is red on teh bottom where it shows zero oil pressure and when I start it, it stays at zero.
looks like i'm screwed.
it is very unlikely the sensor has gone bad.
assuming i have zero oil pressure all of a sudden what is teh likely cause?

nope it stays on.... also like i said the engine doesn't sound right, no kocking sounds but tapping sounds probably lifters not getting oil.
looks like this is the end of my 944...... ah so depressing.

However, complete NA engines are cheap, and after you replaced that I think you have replaced everything inclined to break on your car Stay with it, you have done so much, dont part it

could it be a bad oil pressure relief valve? I doubt it.
anyways I need help making a decision soon if it's not a simple fix most likely not then it's either parting it piece by piece which I really don't have time or selling it as whole for parts.
I've probably spent 9000 dollars on this car hard to believe. bought it for 4100 3 years ago and in teh past 25,000 kms since then I've replaced teh clutch, torque tube, water pump, timing belt, tires, brakes, fuel lines, all fluids etc etc.

I don't have time for an engine swap. I have also never done an engine swap and it woudl take me way to long. I need a car badly right now so I don't have months to wait to put a new engine in.
if it's not fixable I will have no choice but to sell it as parts sadly. I need to get whatever money I can for it.

The "!" will also be on if the handbrake is on. Just to make sure that you are aware, given the focus on the oil pressure side of the instrument pod.

I had a similar random problem with my old 85 N/A. Changing the oil/filter solved it. Don't know how or why but it did it.
and is the oil pressure light lit up (not the ! light) when the car is running?

Usually you dont just end up with no oil pressure from turning it on in the morning, unless you don't really know if it was good or not when you got to your spot the night before...
Sneaking suspicion its something else.. but it could be.

last night it was fine. I always look at my oil pressure gauge while driving as I'm always paranoid.
yesterday I noticed at idle the oil pressure was a bit lower than usual. usually at idle the pressure is just above 2 bar and yesterday it had dropped to about 1.8 bar which is still acceptable.
so maybe something was going wrong yesterday. but I never got zero bar yeterday.

under pressure
Hey there!
First of all. Please stop running your engine with no pressure.
Secondly, get a real pressure gage (mechanical) and remove the plugs. crank the engine to spin it and record what, if any, pressure you get.
If none, I would guess the Oil pump has an issue, there is a blockage (somewhere) or the oil pump is not connected. I will research it a bit and see if I can come up with some more theories.
However, these are theories. You will have to diagnose and fix it yourself. I know you have no time. Welcome to the club. I know you are deep into this car. Welcome to the club. If you have no time, recruit someone who can deal with it and guide them. However, I am thinking you are pretty familiar with the vehicle and have a fairly good aptitude for this kind of thing so lets see what we can do. REplacing the oil and filter doesn't seem like it will work. However it is worth a shot and I have had it work for me. Dunno why, it just did. After the change, spin the engine without plugs and see if you get pressure (still have the gage on)
I have seen pumps fail. (other model)A bit of something gets in the gears or they misalign, and then the shaft snaps. End of story if you are on the highway at speed. Your engine might be saved. (hey, we can hope).
Anyhow, do the above and then repost. Also PM me with the results as I might miss the posts.
