Default Clearance for bolt below HCV?

I'm doing the rear main seal/clutch. I notched the bell housing - worked nice! It's been 12 years since I did a clutch though and I'm struggling to get the ground strap bolt back in on the top of the bell housing. Clearance is very tight with the heater control valve sitting right above where the bolt goes. I've tried prying it out of the way but just can't quite get the bolt straight enough to get it started. Short of removing the intake, does anyone have any tricks for getting a little more clearance back there? It's like the engineers decided to put the HCV in the worst possible spot and as a bonus, if it leaks it may ruin your clutch so you get to do it all over again....
