944 S2 Trunk release problem
I have a 91 944 S2 that will not open the trunk. I get the motor turn and noise but the latch is not releasing. What can I do to get the trunk open short of a pry bar? I am too big to get in the trunk and reach it!

Hi - welcome to the rennlist!
Your best source for Porsche information.
I have moved your thread from the Help and test forum to the 944 forum, you should get better responses there!
Good luck fixing your problem, and again, welcome!

Pcogdell, you'll notice a search function in the navigation bar. Try it out. I remember a discussion about stubborn trunk lids very recently.
Good luck with it.

My old 86 was like this. The cable had snapped. I just used the key from the outside. (I'm sure you already tried that). Assuming that doesn't work...If you climb in the back and pull down the carpet, you can get to the latch and probably manipulate it free.

can you open with the key? the pins may be adjusted too short and are pulling too tight.
press the button(2nd person required) and have someone lift on the lid or with the key, turn the key and lift the lid.
it's a happy medium on the adjustment, too loose and it rattles, too tight and won't open.
when you do get it open, have someone press the release button and see if the catch mechanisms pull back on each side.
each side needs to be adjusted for fit.

I had the same problem on my '86.
There are rubber cups inside the latch blocks that deteriorate and then prevent the latches from opening all the way. Once you get the hatch open, check those, and remove if necessary.
To get the hatch open, climb in through the front, remove, the carpet, and fiddle with the latch linkage while applying some pressure to the glass until that side releases, then go to the other. You can also try to wiggle the whole hatch side to side while providing lifting force.
Just be careful while doing both of those things, you do not want to get over exuberant and bend anything.
And look for that other thread on this subject.

I guess I left off the fact my 944 S2 is a Cabriolet and the opening is too tight for me to reach the latch!
I can see the motor turn and the cable moves but the latch does not release! I am about 6 inches too short on arm reach. I guess I will have to take to the shop and hope they have longer arms?
Thanks for the replies!

I know its a little late but the cabriolet 944's have a second manual opening cable running from latch into drivers rear fender and tucked into open space under rear speaker. You can get to it by removing black plastic vent and sticking hand inside to pull on it and open the rear trunk in case of motor failure!

Same trunk release problem on my 91 S2 Cab
Same issue. I can see the latch moving but it looks disconnected or a better way of describing the issue is unresponsive in getting the locking mechanism to release. Can't get to it from the back seat. Locksmith? Torch? ?
Thanks!
Thanks!

trunk release problem
on the 1991 944 S2 Cabriolet there IS NOT an emergency release cable in the door vent. mine will not open and the motor turns when you use the key in the lock or the button on the kick panel. I have managed to get the rear seats unlatched and see what is going on. the problem is, you have to been a skinny 10 year old to fit through to get to the lock. I have managed to take the bolts out of that hold to lock mechanism in place but it still wont come up. any other suggestions would be nice.
