nipple trouble - what size are the bleed nipples on the brake calipers?
Hi,
atempted to bleed the brakes at the weekend and spent a lot of time scratching my head. The car is a 1983 2.5L 944
a 7mm spanner was too big and a 6mm spanner was too small. The nipple is not rounded, and I'm not imagining it I even got a pal to check it himself. we tried a couple of different 6m and 7 mm spanners to rule out a duff spanner, but it's definitiley in-between these sizes. We tried imperial sizes too, but no luck.
is there some special porsche spanner? could these have been replaced by a PO with some odd size nipples?
so what can it be? I've never heard of a 6.5.mm ??
it sounds crazy, but there you go.
any help greatly appreciated. Not being able to bleed the brakes prevented me from attending a track day at the weekend.

6.5MM exists but usually in socket form. There are 6.5mm ignition wrenches, they are really tiny wrench sets.
You could try a standard wrench, 5/16th's maybe?
Someone could have replaced it down the line, some GM cars use a metric threaded brake bleeder that has a standard wrench size to loosen it lol

ahh, ok, thanks, I'll pick up a 1/4" online and give that a whirl. (my local tool place doesn't have spanners that small)
I could have given it a go with mole grips, or like you say, a crecent adjustable, but whenever I've used them in the past on nipples I've ended up rounding off the nipple, which then opens another can of worms I'd like to keep firmly shut
I'd actually quite like to replace all the nipples anyway. do you know the size of the threads on them? my local moter-spares place has bins full of them, with all different threads, but most of his accept 10mm or 11mm spanners.
