Default Clutch changed, now no 4th gear

So I finished up the clutch over the weekend but now I have no 4th gear when moving. If the car is off I can hit all the gears, but when I start moving I can not grab 4th, any ideas?

I did a lot of searching, but most posts usually had more then one gear not selectable, and it was from a misaligned shift rod. So I have adjusted it, and reset the shift rod multiple times and still no 4th gear

Thanks
Tom

Uh... this may sound like a dumb question, but did you top off the transaxle fluid?

Its full, just changed it. The trans worked great when I parked the car to change the clutch, and no fourth gear when I am moving.

I'm guessing from the further reading I have done I have something out of alignment between the shift rod and trans. Unless someone has another suggestion, I will take it apart and try to reset the bar in the receiver part on the trans again and see what happens.

How about trying turn the car off and put in 4th and start the car with the clutch in and let it out and see how it does

And what would starting the car in 4th gear do? Just curious?

With the rear wheels off the ground, I can put the trans in 4th, and let out the clutch and the wheels turn and if I apply the brake the engine stalls. I did this to make sure 4th was actually engaging, but I have not tried it on ground.

I'm assuming you have not personally replaced a 944 clutch, because if you have, you would never think about trying to slip a clutch enough to get your car moving in 4th after replacing one

You are certain the linkage at the tranny is adjusted properly? There are shift rod detents with spring loaded plungers on one side of the gearbox. Did the tranny get dropped per chance?

shifter most likely needs to be adjusted on the trans itself. Loosen the bolts on the trans and have someone hold the shifter vertical then retighten. If the shifter is laying to one side when everything is assembled it maybe hard to get some gears.

I think it's the plate that holds the shifter onto the torque tube. This plate has slots instead of holes. Depending on how you have it adjusted will depend on how far the throws move the shift linkage.

Start with adjustments there.

You did put the correct tapered bolt back in the shift-rod-to-transmission coupler? And it's tight and has safety wire?
