Post Changing lighted key heads... help!

Just picked up a new lighted key head for my 924S key (the old one had a missing crest, broken off bulb and a dead battery) and haven't the foggiest idea how to remove the key portion from the old head and install it into the new one.

Anyone have experience doing this?

After minutes of fiddling, prying and hitting it with a large hammer, the old key head gave up it's prisoner. Once it was out, it snapped perfectly into the new head! Too easy.

Thanks for your concern!

So for those of us about to attempt this maneuver, what works best: fiddling, prying, or hitting it with a large hammer?

What you do is open the keyhead, and notice the small spring compressed in there? Well, when the key snaps in, it pushes a little black plastic wedge, which presses the spring and gets locked into place, holding the key in.

So, if you pry that piece out, or are able to slide the black piece toward the spring, the key can be plucked right out the way it went in!

Know what I mean??

Editorial licence aside, it's exactly as stated above! It's pretty logical (more excellent German engineering) once you crack the sucker open and have a peek inside.

Having a brand new looking key makes the car look just that much better now! What a beauty.
