I read on one of the hybrid forums that there is a MOPAR clutch with the same basic diameter and exact same spline that costs about $38. I wish I had saved the link. You might want to search around for it. Let us know what you find out. My understanding is the clutch is a 1" ( or 1 1/32") x 23 spline of whatever Porsche diameter. Similar sized clutches were used on Ford mustangs and minivans as well as several others, or so I've heard

What is the diff between these two anyway? Other than the obvious width -- what else is diff?

ps. Tom -- thanks for the offer -- what is the width of the center portion? Is the diameter 220MM?

unless you have a coupon code lol. my mechanic had one for like 10% off or something.... i had my clutch replaced about 1 year ago, cost me around 900$ including the disk. had to eat peanut butter and jelly for lunch for a long time

where are you getting that quote from? When I was looking for a new clutch for mine, I was looking at over $2,200 all said and done.

An alternative would be great. What I see as a major issue is the Porsche 944 clutch disengages with a pull on the TOB not a push like most domestic cars. As long as these clutches can often last the cost difference in making another unit fit right might eat up the added expense of a Sachs or KEP. Just getting the clutch fork and hydraulics to work correctly with another PP could be a challenge. I'm not knocking trying something else but it does seem better suited to a hybrid conversion where custom fabrication is the norm and expected.

I WANT MORE INFO ON THIS! Man, I would love to find a tricky source for the clutch. If I can help in the search let me know, but I wouldn't even know what to do or where to start. I guess I can find a domestic tuner shop, walk in with a 944 clutch disk, and say "I have this blown clutch disk out of my Dodge, and I want a Mopar disk, hook me up home skillet".

Most times when the clutch goes, its only the clutch that goes. You probably don't need to change the pressure plate, even if you do, I see no reason you can't use a slightly different clutch with a new Porsche pressure plate. Hell, the spring centered clutch I put in when I replaced my clutch was WAY different then the rubber centered clutch that it replaced.

Regarding an EXACT fit, as long as it fits the spline correctly (they're using this clutch with 350 HP V8s) and is within reason similar in diameter and does not interfere with the fork and TOB I don't see why a slightly different clutch would not be acceptable.

I wish I had heard of the possibility when I was replacing our clutch. Then I'd have real information to supply rather than speculation.

I remember reading on another forum - a guy tried the Ford clutch on his 944 and the center springs contacted the flywheel bolts, so the clutch wouldn't work even though the diameter and splines were correct.

225mm or 8-7/8 diameter.
23 spline, 1" or 25mm center.

Mid 80's 4cyl and V6 Fords, and Mitsu based Dodges use the same size clutch, but like I posted above the key is the low clearance between the clutch face and the top of the flywheel bolts.

That disc is crap.

The sizes I listed above are also for the NA disc, since that is what we were originally talking about. The turbo disc is 240mm

The old supply and demand slight of hand.... too bad its true.

Ok, what is wrong with the centerforce disc?

I am looking into the Mopar angle -- but its hard to believe that this option hasn't been vetted by the racer set?

Clutchnet makes discs for our cars. I bought a 6 puck bronze ceramic for my turbo S. It's just starting to break in and the chattering is getting better. I would imagine that the less aggressive discs are a bit easier on engagement, but I haven't had one to compare.

This one is $110 http://www.clutchnet.com/product.php...0&cat=0&page=1
