I read on one of the hybrid forums that there is a MOPAR clutch with the same basic diameter and exact same spline that costs about $38. I wish I had saved the link. You might want to search around for it. Let us know what you find out. My understanding is the clutch is a 1" ( or 1 1/32") x 23 spline of whatever Porsche diameter. Similar sized clutches were used on Ford mustangs and minivans as well as several others, or so I've heard

Tom R is right -- poor us 44 owners when it comes time for the clutch!
The pelican list price for 44 disc is 347.75. The 968 disc is 176.00. What possible reason is behind this price delta?
What is the diff between these two anyway? Other than the obvious width -- what else is diff?
-Dan
ps. Tom -- thanks for the offer -- what is the width of the center portion? Is the diameter 220MM?

I need to change the clutch on my car and I own a 300zx and a Lexus SC300 With 2jzgte and the clutch is very cheap compared to this old porsche! I bought a clutch kit for both my other cars for around 280 each and they were stage 3 clutchs from Exedy! This Porsche clutch costs $520 and laber people charge is rediculous, $800+ for a clutch replacment! So why is it that a OEM sach clutch for a porsche costs almost 3 times as much as any other clutch for a car? And Is there a clutch kit for around $300 or less for this car?

Most times when the clutch goes, its only the clutch that goes. You probably don't need to change the pressure plate, even if you do, I see no reason you can't use a slightly different clutch with a new Porsche pressure plate. Hell, the spring centered clutch I put in when I replaced my clutch was WAY different then the rubber centered clutch that it replaced.
Regarding an EXACT fit, as long as it fits the spline correctly (they're using this clutch with 350 HP V8s) and is within reason similar in diameter and does not interfere with the fork and TOB I don't see why a slightly different clutch would not be acceptable.
I wish I had heard of the possibility when I was replacing our clutch. Then I'd have real information to supply rather than speculation.

225mm or 8-7/8 diameter.
23 spline, 1" or 25mm center.
Mid 80's 4cyl and V6 Fords, and Mitsu based Dodges use the same size clutch, but like I posted above the key is the low clearance between the clutch face and the top of the flywheel bolts.

The old supply and demand slight of hand.... too bad its true.
Ok, what is wrong with the centerforce disc?
I am looking into the Mopar angle -- but its hard to believe that this option hasn't been vetted by the racer set?

Clutchnet makes discs for our cars. I bought a 6 puck bronze ceramic for my turbo S. It's just starting to break in and the chattering is getting better. I would imagine that the less aggressive discs are a bit easier on engagement, but I haven't had one to compare.
This one is $110 http://www.clutchnet.com/product.php...0&cat=0&page=1
