Snap-on has a longer socket that works well with the CV joints because the rubber boots don't have to be moved so far.

I had went to my local BMW dealer and got in touch with their Snap-On guy. Hadda meet him behind in some parking lot. $22 for a socket is a helluva lot, but it was a good tool. Get new bolts to put back in.

The higher price for the higher quality "triple square" tool for the socket heads is money well spent. Before attempting to insert the tool, use some spray brake cleaner and thoroughly clean out the head of the bolts. Make sure the tool is inserted all the way into the bolt before turning. If all come out without damage, just clean them up before going back and be sure to torque them properly in an opposing pattern only after all are snuggged up.
Good luck

when we were taking the parts car apart we had to search titusville for one. we were out all morning, and we found one at the LAST place we looked: the local ghetto-napa. labelled as a VW tool, it was only like $5 and worked fine.
