What year did they start using these ?

I thought they came stock in 85.5

My 85.5 didn't have them. Not sure if they were available or not, but considering it came with the upgraded paint (garnet red metallic), fuchs, etc., I'm guessing the original owner would have gotten script handles if they were available. The stock handles really do look cheesy next to script ones. They wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for that fake wood grain plastic inlay thing.

...but that's because I added them from an 88 Turbo

85.5 cars have the old-school vw handles, with the faux-woodgrain insert. The upgraded handles didn't show up until MY 86.

Oh. I always thought when the redesigned the 944 in 85.5, they put the newer door handles on. I guess I was wrong, lol.
