944 automatic fluid?

944 automatic fluid?
I purchased a 1986 944 2.5 with a 3 speed automatic gearbox at the tail end of last year.
Recently I have noticed small spots of liquid to the rear of the car when left parked up over night. I have had a mechanic check it out, and it appears some of the pipework around the gearbox are leaking fluid out occasionally.
I have been advised ATF-Q dextron II fluid is correct to put in? I have had a look myself and it appears the current liquid is red if that helps.
Can anyone confirm this would work before I buy some and ruin my car?

When in doubt, check the owner's manual
you'll probably want to save that onto your hard drive for future reference (for Internet Explorer, file --> Save as)
owner's manual says Dexron ATF, final drive is hypoid SAE 90 only. Not sure what Q is in ATF-Q?
Maybe someone who knows autos can chime in.
edit: have you checked the ATF fluid level?

It says it is dextron II ATF-Q. The fluid level is about half way between minimum and maximum at the moment, but has been dripping a few weeks by the looks of things.
ATF-Q Automatic Transmission Fluid is widely used in most makes of automatic gearboxes and power steering systems, where an ATF-A, ATF-D, ATF-D2 or ATF Dexron II D specification is demanded.
Does this match then? It looks about right?
