Yes, Thanks for all your hard work and dedication, John and Jen. Rennlist has truly made my P-car ownership a more enjoyable and rewarding experience through knowledge, friendship, support, and even a little clowning around. <img border="0" alt="[thumbsup]" title="" src="graemlins/bigok.gif" />

Happy B-day, Rennlist, and thanks Jen and John! Without you existing online like this and the help of the other enthusiasts, I would still be looking for my Blk/Blk 944!
Thank you!

All -
Neato Sentiment - but the big party should be on the 28th - which is the 5th anniversary of the initial email that John (and a MESS of other people) sent out announcing Porschelist.org, which then became Rennlist.
I was there then, and still am truely amazed today...
If you're interested - here's a copy of the FIRST Porschelist.org email - inviting everyone to join up.

You are receiving this message because you have, in the past, participated in a Porsche dedicated mailing list. If you are no longer interested in Porsches and do not want to participate in a Porsche related mailing list in the future please delete this mail now. We will not bother you again.
We would like to inform you of a new, professionally maintained free Porsche mailing list and archive search service: PorscheList (http://www.porschelist.org).
After living with the ups and downs of the current lists for a couple of years, a group of PorscheFans members have gotten together, thinking, "We can do better". We are in no way wishing ill of the existing PorscheFans lists, or the list management. We simply believe that we can provide a better service.
We have collected donations from our small group, have purchased modern mailing list management software, and have professionally maintained servers set up with a high-speed Internet connection. Our group consists exclusively of Porsche enthusiasts. Four members of our group will always be on hand to ensure that there is an administrative presence on our lists at all times.
The PorscheList mailing lists so far include the following lists:
911
924/944
914
356
928
Boxster
Racing
Please review our charter by going to <a href="http://www.porschelist.org/charter.htm," target="_blank">http://www.porschelist.org/charter.htm,</a> and if you decide you would like to join us you can subscribe by following the directions on the web site (http://www.porschelist.org/faq.htm).
If you have questions about the lists or the web site please send an email message to listmasters@porschelist.org.
The following people have either assisted in the creation of the lists, or have kindly agreed to jump on the lists so that we can assure YOU that there will be a good technical presence!

Hmmmm.......
Interesting thread.... Thanks Chris..!!!!
OK - here is the "Rest of the Story".....
Porschefans had an e-mail list, which was resurrected from the PorschePhiles days... PorschePhiles was pretty good - and boosted about 300 folks on a single e-mail list... When that "tanked", PorscheFans was born, and for a year or so - was a pretty good e-mail listserve, except for the fact - about once a week - it would crash and dump all the folks who were subscribed....
Anyway - three of us started chatting off-line and trying to contact the "PorscheFans Webmaster", to no avail - to see if we could assist him): Ross Parker (a wonderful person), Charlie Kindel (who was with Microsoft at the time) and me (I had a life/job as well).... Anyway - I told them I could program a list server and I'd contribute a few hours a month for system maintenance and my bandwidth from my company (a whopping 56KBs frame)...
After taking a look at some of the available list software, the three of us decided on Lyris (at $3000!!!) and it was decided that I'd try some test programming. The name of the first "list" was the "disgruntled" list - and we opened it up to a small group of "Founders" (those in the list above with an "*" next to their name). So, for the next few weeks the "3" grew to "24" folks, all assisting with beta testing, writing the "letter" that was sent out - and general moral support
Finally - the list (PorscheList) was actually launched unofficially on Wednesday (tomorrow), when Farzaan Kassam made a post to the PorscheFans list by mistake (sure, Farzaan - I still don't believe it was a "mistake" ). Anyway - I was doing the final programming on my i386 workstation - when it got REALLY SLOW. Seems that the 500 folks on the PorscheFans 944 list were all "subscribing"... The official letter went out this coming weekend, and was authored by Charlie Kindel. And yes - I used my then "new list server" to send that invitation to every address on the PorscheFans site. PorscheFans was decimated within two days, and I had about 3,000 P'car nuts on the PorscheList server. Funny thing - the PorscheList (now Rennlist) server never went off line, so folks began to expect a certain degree of integrity from the technology and a level of customer support they hadn't experienced from a free web site previously.
Finally - it has kind of evolved from those days through today. PorscheList became Rennlist and appears to continue at phenomenal growth. However, that growth is to your credit, certainly not Jen's nor to my credit. And the community you have forged within this site - I believe - is not paralleled anywhere else within the Internet. And again, that is to your credit....
My Best to all - and my thanks for the well wishes...!!! If I thought about it, I wonder if I knew today what those many years would bring - if I'd do it all over? Yea - I think I would <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />
