Can the 968 unit be fitted to a late 944 application?

I don't know but I would imagine it'd be tons easier to check and adjust the late 944 tension 10 times (and a whole lot cheaper.) It only takes 25-30 minutes to check/set the belt tension. Plus even with a 968 a reasonably paranoid owner will want a peek at the belts every so often anyway.

I've only compared my 968 block to an S2 block and it does look like all the same mounting holes are there. The 968 tensioner also needs the pivot lever & roller, which is a separate part, and the roller on that lever is wide for the 16v belt. I don't know if a narrow roller could be found to fit properly but it would make an interesting project. Or of course you could just run the wide roller with a narrow belt, that should be fine.

It would be cheaper to buy the arnnworx 920x or the porsche 9201 than buying a 968 tensioner setup though.

It may be from an 86. Forgot that there was an 86 model for the the 924s, thought they did not start building them until model year 87.

My '87 924s has the eccenytric and was mfgd. in 04/86. The 924s is reported to have the updated tensioner as per factory literature. Some obviously do not.
