944 ROADSTER CAGE!
#33
Do you have the cage welded into the joint of the firewall & windshield frame? How about into the top of the windshield? Both of those (easy for me to say) simple welds should stiffen things up a bit.
I'm not surprised that it's not TOO weak... it now probably has more rigidity to it than a 944 cab, but no reason to make it any weaker than it needs to be.
Now I want one
hmm... you should enter that into the 24hrs of lemons!

You need more bracing up top - a X would be helpful, as well as two more front to rear bars over the passengers, but closer to the edges of the car. Also: side impact protection is not enough.

You guys crack me up. I don't think he's planning on manufacturing them, I think he just wants a 944 based kart that he can drive on the street. I'm sure he hasn't lined up an inspection with the NTSB.

painting the bars flat black primer as we speak. and then im putting on black OZ racing wheels. pics to come!
yeah. the side impact bar is kinda dinky....
the top of the windshield is welded to the cage yes. the firewall to windshield joint isn't.
But I can do that.

what would you think of this Z?
a diagonal bar from the far front left to where the two bars are up top to kinda triangulate it but still make it easy to get in and out?
then a cross bar at the rear and another bar under the side bar one with short bars connecting it.

Campeck: gettin' better with your red drawn-in bars. The new rear hatch bar should have a matching diagonal going the other way, to form an "X" Same idea above the passenger compartment. Plus more...
Then again, I'm not a roll-cage maker - if John H. (aka Redlineman) would chime in, that would be helpful...

Having no bars tying the windshield loop to the middle loop at the corners is pretty scary, in a roll over those loops will just fold right over. Tubes are great in tension and compression axially but you cannot rely on them to support torsional loads. Thats why you have to have all the loops braced at the corners so that torsional loads are carried by the braces to hard points on the chassis.
