S2 using oil - looking for suggestions
Hi, have an '89 S2 & it's using quite a lot of oil - also seeing smoke out the back at high revs on full throttle (although seems more brown then blue?). It's had a top end rebuild, but at 246k miles I'd assumed rings may be getting a bit tired. However did a compression test over the weekend, and getting 200+ psi on each cylinder. Runs & pulls well, so hoping it's something relatively simple. Can OAS seals use that much oil? Also, I think I read somewhere that the S2 doesn't have the same problem with the oil cooler seals as it's an oil/air rather than oil/water cooler - is this right?
Any help much appreciated! Thanks. |
same oil cooler seals problem. it is an external cooler, but the tubing goes through the water passage.
what weight oil are you using? try a 40 or 50 weight. if you are using a 30 weight, that may be the problem. |
