Weltmeister front sway bar installation instructions, help please
 

I picked up a Weltmeister adjustable front sway bar recently on ebay and it didn't come with install instructions. It seems like it would be fairly straightforward but I'm looking at the pieces and I'm a little confused. What do the sliding clamps do and where do they attach? It has adjustable drop links. How do they attach to the A-arms? Pictures would be immensely helpful but I can't seem to find one anywhere.

This is the installation for the steel contol arms.

The aluminium is similiar, but uses a different mount to the arm.

The silder on the end of the arm is used to change the effective stiffness of the bar. The more forward the "stiffer" the bar.

I have the instructions in a 2006 Excellence magazine. They installed both a front and a rear Weltmeister bar on an '89 NA. Nice bars ! I'm gonna install one in the front for my upcoming auto-x season.

Thanks! That helps a lot and I think I'm missing a few pieces that connect to the A-arms. I may have to fab something for that anyway as I have Racer's Edge arms on my car.

Because of the thickness of the swaybar mount, when I installed mine one of the factory bolts was only threading in maybe 2 full revolutions. I wasn't comfortable with that so I bought a longer bolt at NAPA. Just something to watch out for...

That's the crossmember bolt, my magazine's article said that they provide a new one with the kit. But in this case he got it incomplete.

M758, those pics look mighty familiar! (as in same ones you sent me when I posted the EXACT same question years ago)

Not sure on the Racers Edge arms, but the aluminum arms (like mine) have some aluminum "halves" that replace the rubber mounts that the drop links attach to. If you have the parts, it's pretty straight forward, mine did not, and calling up Performance Products got me what was needed.

Also, not sure on how you are running your suspension, but my mechanic (ex mucho 944 racer) said top to order additional spherical bearings like the ones shown and get some all-thread to replace the "upper" part as he has seen those fail at the track. Mine FWIW and many others haven't had this problem but I don't Auto-X or jump curbs, the theory is some extra allthread is easy and cheap to replace where the Weltmeister parts are spendy and usually not on hand. I have the parts, but haven't sourced the allthread as of yet.

These bars have been on my car for 5+ years fo hard racing use. I have never have had an issue with those drop links.

You had to drill new holes into the steel a-arms right? Do they supply a template or is this fairly easy to get the location right?

Yep,
The template I used was the black bushing plates that came with the sway bar. The sort of fit nicely in one spot on the arms and that is where you drill the holes.

I picked up a mostly-complete front Weltmeister kit and am fabbing up the missing parts. While I do have a number of pictures/documents, I was hoping someone might have their car in the air to do some measuring for me.


1) Mounting block (the bar stock used to mount the center bushings): my best guess are dimensions of 6" x 2" x 5/8". How close am I?

2) What is the length of the standoffs used to space the mounting block properly?

3) There is a smaller pair of bar stock used between the bushing and the mounting block mentioned in #1. I noticed many do not use this (including the pictures above). Are these only needed for the aluminum control arms? I currently have steel arms.

4) What are the dimensions of the plastic bushings sandwiching the control arm in place?
