BOCES painting my moms car
What do you guys think? The "automotive painting" class instructor at the county BOCES offered to paint my moms car for the cost of materials. Do you guys think they will be able to a good job? I remember when I tried to learn body work I would mess up constantly.

What kind of car? My father had a class paint his old truck and they did a decent job. But this was 20 years ago so maybe kids have worse skills now.
If it's worth something then I'd say no, but if it's a run of the mill car that is not worth much, then why not?

If she really likes the car, I would not go there. Why BOCES---was Maaco booked? J/K
Look at it this way: would you get your haircut at BOCES? Why would you trust your car there? If it's a POS, go for it. A keeper---no.

The kids are using the car to practice on, so it's a crap shoot. How far along are they practice-wise. Are they just starting out? How many cars have they done? How much is mom willing to pay to have the job redone if they screw it up? Don't expect a factory like finish, much less a professional job.

Jeez, I haven't heard the term BOCES since I left the Catskills in 1979. No offense to anyone who has participated, but at my school (Ellenville Central H.S.), only tards were in BOCES. They were not exactly golden hammers as I remember.

I do if you feel like sending it. I picked up a late NA from Legoland, but yours would be sweet. Botards = lol.

Haha - I still have a little beanie cap that I have in my closet from my visit to BOCES when I went to high school in Western New York back in the late 1980s. I put it on every so often so I can look like a high school welder!

I have worked on advisory commitees for two different trade school's auto body programs. Typically you will have one "special" student per class who is capable and cares about his/her work. One or two others are good enough to get by. A fair majority of the rest will purposely eff up your car. If you saw what goes on in some of these classes you would be sick to your stomach. I wouldn't do it on a car I was keeping, especially a porsche..not in a million years. FWIW, I came out of one of these programs years ago, so I'm not bashing. My instructor was great and I was "that" kid who gave a ****. A few years back I was recommended for the instructor position by the faculty at my old school. I was truly honored and seriously considered it until I spoke with the person in charge of hiring. He offered to start me in the mid 20's and actually questioned my lack of experience in frame repair as I spent considerable time working on the refinish side of the business. Obviously I passed on the position. My point is this: Do you want your car repaired by a bunch of kids being taught by a technician who will work for that kind of money when good techs make in the neighborhood of $70-100k/year?
