Default Extra timing belt roller on S and S2

I was staring at the diagrams for the belts and had a moment of panic when I noticed that I had an extra roller in my 944S2/968 Hybrid engine. It's the camshaft timing belt roller that is tucked down near the crank. Why was this eliminated in the 968 engine? My block is an S2 and I was wondering if I should delete this roller. I put it in when I reassembled the front of the engine, but I was curious what purpose it served other than making timing belt changes more difficult. You can see it in these pictures.

Hey Justin I went back and looked at my old diagrams. It looks as though the high compression 944s had that extra roller. Not really sure of its point other than to help guid the belt as its on the outside of the belt.
Sometime after a race or practice you need to tell me more about this hybrid engine. Especially if I can add a bit more power to my S2

I've been taking lots of pictures as the engine came apart and back together. I'll make a blog type post at some point with all the details and mistakes that I learned from.

We just got the engine back in the car on Saturday, so there's still lots of stuff to hook up and fiddle with before it will run. I'm expecting about 240RWHP and about 2500lbs.

I've seen that roller on about half the 16v engines I've worked on. Some people don't bother replacing it as they think it's a spare...seems to run fine without it.

bumping this up...
is this roller supposed to be there on a 968 or not?
it is shown in the PET, but my 968 tensioner "triangular mounting plate" does not have threads tapped in the boss where this roller would sit on an S/S2.

also it looks like the available 968 timing belt kits do not include it either.

and then there's this..
