Do you think it will ever happen? Would Porsche ever build a 944 follow-on?
I was thinking today that I would absolutely go into debt for a brand new Porsche, 4-cylinder front engine turbo. I am generally against buying anything new, however, if Porsche made a 944 follow-on and actually gave it a number designation instead of the contemporary naming bull crap they do now (Cayman??), I would buy one. And in 20 years I'd be on Rennlist telling about my 200,000 mile Porsche I picked up brand new at the dock.
I wish they would consider the Boxster/Cayman equivalent to the 914, and go ahead and develope a REALY entry level instead of one they call entry level but you can't touch for less than $50k. :soapbox: Just a quick rant. Is it bad that I thought about this during the last worship song at church today? :) |

The new entry level porsches are cheap. Compare the price of a new boxster with what the average home costs now-- then compare the 1989 944 turbo (50k sticker) with the cost of the average home in 1989.

I was thinking about this too the other day, not during church though (although I admit, I'll occasionally drift into thought about long windy roads during mass).
I was considering making a concept drawing of what one would look like just for fun. Should be interesting.. |

Factoring the costs of inflation, the 944's cost the same/were more expensive than boxsters are today.

I for one think they should. The 924/944/968 series cars were very sucessful. They sold tons of em. Look at all the enthusiasm they still generate. The last one was made 15 years ago and there are businesses based around them and boards like this one have huge a following.
That being said, it would mean a completely different platform which would be very expensive. The 924 originated from a project that was in the works for another manufacturer (VW). That situation may not happen again. |

No,
944 has a "cult" following. Yeap we are those kooky "cult" guys. There is not popular following in the 944. The 928 could be "redone", but only because front engine V8 GT cruisers are still popular. It is very debatalbe if they put and 928 cues in it or not. The boxster is in fact a recreation of the 914, but in a prettier body using only a Porsche motor. |
