I think $500 would be a reasonable price.

I'd be interested. I'd be willing to pay for quality. For something made of lexan with no frills, I'd offer less than $500. For a nice smoked glass one, probably more than $500.

At the $500-600 range, this is the kind of thing that I would be interested in, although it's not something that I can really see myself holding out to buy. I'd either end up buying it on a whim (I do stuff like that every now and then!) or I'd use that money towards a Miata hard top, which is something I'd need more.

Less than $500-600 increases the chance of a whimsical purchase... more, well, we're really getting dangerously close to the Miata hard top.

BB.

In the $500 range in glass I'd be a buyer but would prefer plexi which should be able to be produced for less.

Been looking at them for the last two years in ebay and if one is patient they can still be had in the $750 range. Not interested at that price.

My understanding was that Saratoga made both lexan and glass for various makes. If it's made from Lexan, that'd be ****! There are two downsides to Lexan:

1.) Scratches VERY easily
2.) Does not like sun. How ironic.

You can protect with special UV and scratch resistence coatings, but that sort of thing would add to the price.

I'd be in fo sho!

Not to be a prophet of doom but this same thread came up over 3 years ago and the same past owners dropped a re-issue like a hot potato. Be very careful is all I have to say. Until you see a product produced I would not put a penny into it. Start up costs are high and money upfront is a no-no. If they are actually committed to a re-issue of the Saratoga top let them make the financial commitment. That's all I have to say.

I'm wondering if that would have been the Ex-Wife who drove the company into the ground? You know..the lady that the original owner/inventor sold the company to several years ago.

The person I'm in touch with is the inventor and original owner of the company... If that's the person you're talkign about...hmmm...

You said they "dropped it like a hot potato" - do you mean they actualyl did re-issue it, or that they dropped theball and screwed people over?

I'd buy a quality glass top that would leak for $500 or less.
Let me know how it goes.

I mean there were several people that got all lathered up after talking to the people/person that had the rights to it. Promises were made to go into production, countless people waited for a hard copy but it never went anywhere. If I recall (I'm not sure who owned the rights at the time) the guy/ex wife/trained chimp finally said he/she/curl the lips said they would need 100+ orders to even start up and wanted deposits. I'm not trying to be discouraging and if a new glass unit can had for $500 I'll be in the first group to buy but the market just isn't there for a production run IMHO. If you can pull it off, I'll eat crow and buy you a dinner for two at your favorite vintage guitar restraurant.

Depending on what it costs to make them, if he could offer them at $500 or a little more, he'd make a killing. I never see them for less than $700-800.

1500? What?

For that much im sure I can coax the Air-tite window installer into making me one for much much less.

Seriously. Has anyone ever thought of what it would really cost to make one? Its just glass with some damn hinges on the side.

Id trial and error my *** a few saratoga tops for 1500.
