Konis are complete and are only temporary for getting the car to paintshop and to move it around. I have to get quality camber plates for bilsteins..

Cup rack is supposed to have shorter ratio than 944 347 011 00, it turns from one side to the other in little less than 3 steering wheel turns..

From a google search it results that 944 347 015 00 is a manual rack and 944 347 011 00 is a power assisted rack . You made me curious ,i'll try to check the code on my rack .

Regular manual rack is 944 347 011 00

944 347 015 00 should be "sport" version that they used in early offset 944 turbo cup cars, you could get it on regular 951 or 944 too, but in some kind of sport package only. Or so I was told.

http://content.yudu.com/Library/A1s8...ources/588.htm

This is PET 1988 944/2 manual steering rack.. Rack number is 944 347 011 00 and it looks like they used the exact same VW tie rod (moog ev378), and female ball joint to convert it to later offset.

sashs: will call you today.

Got the moog tie rods today They are dirt cheap, 11€/peace.

The long moog number is VO-AX-7181, the other VW number for this part is TA1283

Manual rack bellows/boot alternative numbers are Seinsa D9014 and D9090

Are those Moogs for manual rack only, or does they fit power steering rack as well?

No, these will only work with manual rack (early offset) and later offset car.
Power steering shafts are male type on both sides, manual is female on both sides. Moog however is female -> male, so latter tie end will fit, and are longer to compensate shorter rack and wider offset..

I got later tie rod ends too, they are Lockheed - Delphi TA770, also ,BMW : 3211 1116 463, Volvo : 3211955 - 3265974 ,Volkswagen : 171 419 812

Bottom one on this picture is 89 power steering

After some 3 years the car is attached to wheels again. This time with latter offset.

Now I must find the other rear rotor to get the handbrake working and prep it for alpineweiss white.

The late (87+) Cups just used a depowered power steering rack. Approx 18+:1 ratio. The stock manual racks are close to 23:1 ratio.

I have never seen or heard of an 18:1 manual "sport" rack that was used on the 86 Cups. Interesting find.

I was wondering if it really has different ratio than regular manual rack so I printed angle scale and used amateurish approach to measure it..

It shows 23 degrees in one full steering wheel turn, that should be 15:1, but if I leave 3 degrees error margin, since measure method is not that accurate and say it is 20, than the ratio should be 18:1
